was the first feature Harold Lloyd
produced after his not-so-amicable split with producer Hal Roach (who would later produce the Our Gang
— aka Little Rascals
— series). Clearly, Lloyd felt he had something to prove, as Girl Shy
(especially in its famous last scene, a wild chase through the streets; see image below) features nonstop comedy of the highest order.
It's hard to dislike this film, which is not only hilarious but historically important. Girl Shy
is one of the very first Hollywood romantic comedies. A fine way to kick off this esteemed genre.
This screening will feature live piano accompaniment by Bob Merrill
