    ALMOST FAMOUS
On the Big Town Gallery website, the late Robert Hamilton is quoted as saying, “My fiction now is that I want to be the best totally unknown painter in the world.” Hamilton, who died in 2004 at age 88, spent his career teaching at Rhode Island School of Design. He was an equal of the best figurative abstractionists of his era, but he wasn’t quite unknown. The exhibition of Hamilton’s paintings dating from 1985, at the Rochester venue through June 21, will surely diminish his “obscurity” even further, at least in the Green Mountains.
