OUT OF THE SHADOWS The silver-gelatin photographs of Elisabeth Howland’s
exhibition, “Crepuscule Vespers,” at the Firehouse Community Darkroom gallery are — apropos for a dark room — somewhat dusky. Her compositions are strong, her modulations of value subtle. Howland’s artist statement asserts, “Art is a mirror reflecting a mirror, creating a network of intangible yet inseparable portraits.” Many of her works are images of power and protest in modern America.
