Re: “Chop Shop Hair Design

I have to say since I moved back to VT two years ago I have struggled to find a hair salon that I truly trust...Chop Shop is the first salon that has competent stylists that know how to color hair appropriately without frying your hair...These stylists know what they are doing...I bounced around between multiple ppl there and was never disappointed, now I go to Alicia who can give you a city quality cut/color with a BTV price:) I will never search for a salon again! I highly reccomend going there! Don't believe the negative reviews you see online, they're posted from people that don't understand what a coloring process takes!

Re: “Birchgrove Baking

The best.

Like having access to a high end NYC bakery. Go early for croissants and scones. 10ish for hot cookies that leak chocolate all over your hands.

It's all gone by the end of the day. Except for the really really fancy stuff that lasts for several days in the case below.

Iced Coffee - Americano.
Almond Croissants.
Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Three items to motivate a person to get through almost anything.

It's expensive. And nothing has prices so you have to kind of order and be ready not to grimace. Also nothing is explained, as to what it is. So the very cool young women (pleasant and appropriately slightly bored) that work there lean on the counter and will tell the customer what's what. This can take some time and the people behind you are looking at their watches.

It's mostly to go but there are about 3 chairs inside, a high table and outside a bench. It's a get it and go place. I recommend that you get it. As often as possible.

Re: “Philamena's

This little space, on Elm Street in Montpelier, is easy to miss. Luckily a friend of mine, who is a very experienced chef, had heard of it through the grapevine and we met there for breakfast last week. We were both very pleased. I was pleased because my breakfast tasted great. She was pleased because everything was prepared with great skill and presented at the right temperature, the right amount and the right price. (Her professional opinion.)

The owner is hoping to recreate his grandmother's Italian Deli that she ran on Long Island for many years. Fresh ingredients, everything from scratch, connection with customer and owner/staff/chef. I really hope he makes it. This place could be a great long term addition to Montpelier's culture of loving food and conversation. The food is unpretentious and full of flavor. There is fresh pasta to go (could be a great booth at the Farmer's Market).

I highly recommend a visit to this new Italian Breakfast and Lunch place. Oh - I didn't get it but they have Pasta Carbonara for breakfast. How cool is that! Also, you must try the home fries. The best I've had in a long time. And the omelet was perfect, and my friend said it was also perfectly cooked.
