Re: “Sukho Thai Restaurant

The food is good, but the service is extremely unpleasant - at least the one guy in the dining room I always see (he has large biceps). He's rude, cold, abrupt, and inconsiderate, not to mention slow and unhelpful. Thai food is my favorite kind of food, and this restaurant is the closest to my work & house, but even though I think about coming here twice a week I actually only go maybe 3x a year (opting for tiny thai in winooski instead) because the guy in the dining room is so terribly unpleasant. Every time I think of calling and placing an order, or going to eat at the restaurant, I remember how he uncomfortable he makes me feel and 95% of the time I decide against going. I don't know who owns this restaurant but you should really think about the people you have representing your place, because you are literally losing money because of that guy.

Re: “Taverna Khione

Had a lovely dinner here with a mix of spreads, the octopus appetizer and a special appetizer of house cured beef in filo dough. Husband and I split the lamb chops. Octopus was tender, lamb was divine.

Re: “ABC Café & Pub

We stopped there the other day for the first time since its old days as Bananas, and we were favorably impressed. Bucking the trend of almost all eateries in Chittenden County, ABC has kept its prices affordable, and the food and drinks are good. I got a great sandwich and a terrific Martini for a total of just over $10. The service was prompt and friendly, and we found ourselves chatting with other customers--it's that kind of place.

I'm getting tired of all the new restaurants with $10 burgers, $12 drinks, "small plates" with two beans and a smear of risotto for $5.98, and waitstaff who act like they are doing us a big favor by allowing us to spend our money. Chittenden County used to have quite a few restaurants with real food at affordable prices with a friendly atmosphere--that has become so rare that ABC now really stands out. I'm told there is live music--Blues Jams (!)--some nights, and look forward to checking that out

Re: “Pho Nguyen

Great food and significant improvements in the environment from the previous establishment, including a pool table, comfortable seating and a full bar.

Re: “Hatchet Tap and Table

I think I might have Gastropub fatigue so please keep that in mind as I review. I also miss the middle of the road option that was Bridget Street Cafe.

This place has an interesting and diverse beer selection keeping it in competition with Prohibition Pig and Farmhouse Tap & Grill.

Unfortunately the food menu isn't quite as diverse. It's also a little overpriced. $19 for fish & chips which consisted of one huge piece of fish. Which wouldn't be an issue, except for the fact that the coating was overcooked and the fish was undercooked. The lobster roll was a nice size and nice amount of lobster. It costs the same as the fish & chips. They toss their fries in rosemary which really didn't go with either entree despite my love of rosemary. The Buffalo wings were pretty good.

The place is very loud and we were seated too close to the creemee machine, which made it worse. Overall probably a better place to go to for a beer or two than an actual meal.

Re: “Maggie O's

Maggie's has a great DIY yogurt set-up -- you choose your yogurt flavors (as many as you want), then add whatever toppings you want! You pay by the ounce, so you can get as little or as much as you want. Plus, Maggie herself is super-friendly.

Re: “Sparkling Champagne & Wine Bar

Not only did we get a delicious bottle of bubbly, but we learned so much from Nancy the proprietress about sparkling wines. Lovely historic house setting, elegant and laid-back at the same time: to sum up, a great experience!

Re: “Positive Pie (Hardwick)

Our lunch was very disappointing. Burger ordered medium was dry and overcooked and though we requested no aioli, it was served with aioli. Salad contained rotting tomatoes and too much dressing, pulled pork sandwich (scanty on the filling) contained several hard, old dried-out french fries that must have fallen in somewhere along the way. (When we pointed this out, nothing was done to adjust our bill.) The french fries that came with the burger were delicious, however. Service was poor: we had to ask for cutlery, cream for coffee, and napkins, it took the waitress a long time to even bring us our drinks, even longer to bring our meals. We won't return to this place.

Re: “Phantom

Wow, what a fantastic meal tonight at Phantom in Waitsfield. We ordered three small plates ("cold side" on the menu) and two main courses ("hot side), and could not resist dessert. Every bite of each course was extraordinary. the server told us the menu changes on a regular basis (lots of local ingredients) so no point in telling you what we ate. We will pass the word on to our friends, and we'll be back, over and over again!

Re: “McGillicuddy's Irish Ale House

OMG, we tried the food at the colchester location. wasted 80.0 bucks on bad artichoke dip and philly cheese steak sandwich. Don't go here hungry you will be sorely disappointed!
HIRE A NEW COOK STAFF....
We will NEVER eat there again.

Re: “Vermont Pub & Brewery

I have not eaten at VTP&B but I have tried a variety of their beers on two separate occasions. Both times I was left wanting. I'm not a professional beer reviewer, but I am not impressed with their beer. They have some very strange flavors. Every beer I tried seemed flat.......with very little carbonation. The first time I thought maybe it was a bad keg, but a year later.....it's all still the same. Flat beer, lacking any real complexity. They are very creative with the different flavors and varieties, but none of them hit a home run with me. I really wanted to love it, as it was off of Church St. and I could actually smoke a cigar on their deck, but after trying 4 different offerings, I found myself yearning for a plain old Switchback.

Re: “Mimmo's Italian Pizzeria and Restaurant

I often go to Mimmos in St. Albans, but this was my first visit to Essex. We ordered a pricey gluten free 12 inch pizza. The pizza we were served was nine inches. We were still hungry. We spoke to the server who fetched the manager. He told us the bakery makes them by hand and sometimes they are small. He said he could not offer us anything else because they were out of pizza crusts. He did not offer us a reduced price. He did not offer us anything else to eat like a salad, dessert or gluten free pasta. He basically told us it was our tough luck and he could offer us nothing. We got 25% less than the menu said, and he did not consider it a problem. I will never go here again.

Re: “Peter Havens

By far the best dining in the Brattleboro area. Chef/ Owner Zach Corbin does an excellent job with a seasonal menu that is reflective of his passion for cooking. They have recently added a deck for lunch & dinner dining, weather permitting. It does not matter if it is a business lunch or a romantic evening this is where I would recommend you go if you're in the area. You will not be disappointed.

Re: “Ocha Thai Restaurant

A favorite of our whole family. Love the beef salad, pad thai, pot stickers, and red curry! Could easily keep everyone happy eating here 3-4 days/week. Expect to wait a little longer on Friday night.

Re: “Central Market: Taste of Asia

A hidden treasure in the North End! This is the Asian Market across from the former Q-Tees dairy bar. They are Nepalese, and have authentic Indian fare on the menu. We crave good Indian and it's hard to find in Vermont.. we go to Montreal for it. Tried the Vegetable Thali, which had an assortment of all our favorites- papadum, naan, aloo gobi, lentil dal, and a matar paneer that was to DIE for. All really clean, tidy, nice seating area, great family feel. Such reasonable prices. Tikka is an amazing cook! Everyone there is so nice! Definitely making this a regular date night..
