Re: “Parkway Diner

it is standard practice to poach eggs in a the same shallow pot (or deep pan) using the same hot water in the pan with a little vinegar. If you boiled new water and used a new pot or pan for everyone who ordered a poached egg/eggs Benidict, it would take forever. Otherwise, a very nice comment. I'm going to check out the parkway again next time I come home.

Re: “Positive Pie (Barre)

Food quality going downhill. Our trip to the Barre location last week was beyond disappointing. As the last review noted they loved the salmon dish. Fast forward a few years and the potatoes were hard as rock, sitting in oil, they were out of most appetizers and nothing tasted fresh. It was as if things were sitting around all day. Nasty compared to a year or so ago. Restaurant not busy and service was subpar. Slow and kitchen very slow.

Re: “Nunyuns Bakery & Café

Been all over this town and Nunyuns is the best eatery for breakfast and lunch. Best food, best prices and best politics. Closest we have to a citywide salon. Support the neighborhood. Support Nunyuns

Re: “Charlie-O's World Famous

Absolute best "dive" bar, period. Cash bar, friendly people, live original music (no cover crap). Love going there when I can.

Re: “Hooker Mountain Farm & Distillery

Out for a Saturday drive? The Tasting Room at Hooker Mountain Farm is a unique experience and worth the drive down Lovely Road.

Re: “Rotisserie Restaurant

Sunday brunch combined quality and value in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Eggs Benny were perfect, and the hash and eggs, huge. Plus $5 Bloody Marys!

Re: “Esperanza Restaurante

ate there recently - pleasant room - good service
food was OK to meh
the refried beans were tasty - as mentioned above -perhaps the best part of the meal
the fish tacos- nice amount of fish - but as stated above - kinda flavorless
skip the pupusas - bland, fried - a major disappointment - thought they would be excellent - sounded like arepas - they arent - these were pretty awful and sat in my tummy like a lead balloon
want this place to be better - hope to try it again
ps - do not go by the review of the food writer in training that 7 days employs- hannah - she is absurd

Re: “McGillicuddy's on the Green

Mcgillicuddys has great food and great service. Food is always consistent and tastes great. They have local grass fed burgers and a great variety of menu items. They also have one of the largest selections of local brews anywhere around. As a google guide I would highly recommend them to try.

Re: “Barkeaters Restaurant

This was our first visit to Barkeaters as we had never even heard of it. We started off with delicious warm bread with warm sweet butter. We had Mishroom fries for an appetizer-delicious with a mango aioli-mmmm! Then my husband had the beet-sweet potato salad and I had the Arugula-Quinoa with a green goddess dressing and they happily substituted Chvre for Blue Cheese which I do not care for! Both salads were amazing and the Maple Cider dressing my husband got was spot on! For entrees, my husband had the cedar plank salmon and I had the lemon chicken with the creamiest risotto that I have ever tasted! Everything from the kitchen was well done, the service was prompt, friendly and attentive. And the best part was the holiday bark served in a tiny canoe with our check-perfect! We WILL be back!

Re: “Hattie's Kitchen

We enjoyed our first trip to Hattie's this morning for breakfast and we will certainly return soon. Pat personally welcomed us to her oh-so-cozy eatery and made a point to greet and serve all of her guests. My husband's homemade cinnamon raisin bread French Toast was both flavorful and filling. The side of bacon was perfectly cooked to his liking. My blueberry pancake was huge (about 9 inch diameter) and plump with berries. Vermont maple syrup is standard fare as are bottomless cups of coffee and tea. Enjoying Hattie's is a quintessential slice of Vermont!

Re: “Esperanza Restaurante

This place offers the only hope of authentic Tex-Mex in Vermont. I grew up in Texas and have delightfully consumed thousands of Tex-Mex dishes, thus, a move to Vermont a decade ago created a huge culinary void -- particularly in the area of queso, refried beans and Mexican rice. This restaurant is the only one I've found that knows how to do these items right, *without* drowning them in cumin, or melting American cheese into a bowl and calling it queso, etc. And they actually use lard in the refritos (gasp!) as authentic recipes often call for. My default is the two-item combo with a refried-bean tostada and chile relleno.I do wish they offered a hotter version of salsa, but overall I'm very glad for this place to exist.

Re: “Queen City Brewery

Here you'll find European delicacies brewed in America that have stood the test of time. (I'm talking centuries!) With all of the proliferation of American inventiveness in beer and ales, these taps produce the standards to judge by.

Re: “Esperanza Restaurante

We had such esperanza for this place. Stopped in on Saturday night around 8:30 and were encouraged to find the newly opened place hopping. It is a pleasant, casual atmosphere. And we were excited about experimenting with new (to us) flavors of Salvadoran and Filipino cuisine. But sadly the food was bland and indistinguishable from the bad tex-mex that seems to consistently disappoint us in the area. I couldn't taste anything in my fish tacos, nor could my husband in his tamales without loading them up with hot sauce, and then they tasted, predictably, like hot sauce. I hope this is just opening week bugs to be worked out, but we were disappointed enough that we might not try again. Service was attentive and well informed.

Re: “The Guilty Plate Diner

It is a great place, great service. too bad a couple of whiners posted here. One apparently can not read as their policy is clearly posted, seated after all in the party arrives.
Been there so many times but can not read. Apparently not many other diners either as it is common in many diners unless seated at the Hey beatnik, not the sharpest knife eh, to update the staff that the rest of your party may not make it and get seated. .

Our second reviewer, Gerryyy is a big traveler and spender worried about using gas to drive to mallets bay. Not only that but a Ramsey want-a-be and sound engineer too. Wow...putting onions on the home fries, yup...sure you did not touch anything on your plate for 10 mins. Perhaps this is your scam to save money. You got up and walked out probably without paying and I am sure without a tip. Got to further try to insult her by describing her as stout. Guess you have not looked in the mirror lately. Save your gas money and don''t drive out to malletts bay. We locals will keep it for ourselves. And by the way, Chef Ramsey said you are a "wanker".

Re: “King's Corner Deli

unassuming, friendly people making hearty delicious affordable sandwiches. Get the Holy Mole breakfast sandwich or the Fresh Italian and you'll know what I mean. Call it in and get to work!

Re: “Hubbard's Country Store

Delicious home-baked goods and custom-made sandwiches offered in an open, country-lovely atmosphere by caring, friendly owners Jon and Sara Deering. Highly recommended. In addition, you'll find lots of food items that you need or decide on-the-spot that you need. A fun experience. Try it, you'll love it!
