Re: “Silver Palace

Not good: ordered Mandarin chicken and S&S pork, exactly the same bland dishes with tough and tasteless greasy meat and this is the last time I'm eating there

Re: “Bayview Eats

Wow, I've had my share of bizarre and unpleasant episodes at this restaurant. Like their on-again, off-again policy on dogs on the patio, and the time two of us went for brunch and they wouldn't seat us at the only empty table, a four top, because there weren't four of us (After 10 minutes wait, we went to Sneakers). But tonight takes the cake. Tonight I called at 8:05 pm to see how late they'd be serving; their website said 9 but their track record is weird enough that I knew I'd better check. The guy on the phone said they'd be serving til 8:30. So I put on my coat and boots, drove 15 minutes to the restaurant, and got there at 8:22 to find the restaurant closed and locked. Seventeen minutes after they told me they'd be open. They don't give a shit about customers and I count the days until they close so that we can get a restaurant that actually understands customer service in that spot. Don't waste your time trying it.

Re: “Cody's Irish Pub & Grille

I've been in the area for several years. Sitting at a table is usually ok. The food is pretty good and the service is usually decent. Sitting at the bar though is entirely different. Sometimes the owner actually achnoledges you and doesn't give you too much attitude. Other times I've felt like I just broke into his living room and sat in his chair. The last time I was there he and his friends (yes, the owner) sat at the best seats at the bar, while there were tables available, and cast angry glances at anyone trying to sit near them. If the dude's doing so darn well he doesn't need my money, he won't get it.

Re: “Shore Acres Inn and Restaurant

Wow Went there last pm at 6 pm ordered 620 burger and salad with only 8 to 10 other diners in the place. Never saw waitstaff again until I finally at 705 flagged down waiter who for 45 minutes had been putting on paper table clothes and silver etc on all the empty tables. I told her I felt forgotten and she seemed genuinely shocked. Said she would tell the chef. 10 minutes later my burger and dinning partner's salad arrived. I had been there two years ago and at the time though a bit pricey for what you got the food was then very good. Management needs to take responsibility for terrible service. Ruined my night. Would not go back

Re: “Wilaiwan's Kitchen

I once had a nice bowl of soup here, but subsequent visits have made it clear that the $10 bowl might often simply be returned to the kitchen untouched. I cannot imagine how they can serve such slop. I should add, in the interest of accuracy, that both times that my food was not edible, that the ethnic female chef was not present, and the kitchen was being run by a white man. BEWARE.

Re: “Sukho Thai Restaurant

I have been going to Sukho Thai for some time and in general the food is ok. There have been three times recently where the order was missing things or just wrong. Two of these times we spoke to the manager and he was VERY rude. The last time (tonight 10/12/15) the order had ingredients that my wife is allergic to and I asked how we would get the order fixed. The manager said he's not fixing anything and the "owners who were standing next to him agreed that they would do nothing to fix the order." I told him I would never buy food from this restaurant again. He said "Fine, we don't want your business anyway". I can't imagine any owner would want their business run by such a jerk to their customers. I can only hope the owners will read this and make the appropriate adjustments before they loose all their customers.

Re: “Bolton Potholes

First of all you are showing the wrong place on your Google map. You are off by about 2 miles uphill.Next you are promoting public overuse of private property. The lower half of the western side of the brook is entirely on private land.Seven Days and BFP seem to do a story about it every summer that just brings more people here that don't have a clue of where to park when they get here so they just park anywhere. This papers home town has organizations that send vans full of kids out here to swim when Burlington has many places available that are much safer.

Re: “Positive Pie (Hardwick)

Our lunch was very disappointing. Burger ordered medium was dry and overcooked and though we requested no aioli, it was served with aioli. Salad contained rotting tomatoes and too much dressing, pulled pork sandwich (scanty on the filling) contained several hard, old dried-out french fries that must have fallen in somewhere along the way. (When we pointed this out, nothing was done to adjust our bill.) The french fries that came with the burger were delicious, however. Service was poor: we had to ask for cutlery, cream for coffee, and napkins, it took the waitress a long time to even bring us our drinks, even longer to bring our meals. We won't return to this place.

Re: “Pine Computers

What's most important in a computer repair company? Honesty? Professionalism? Courtesy? Fair prices? The ability to actually fix your computer?

How about a place that offers none of those?

I brought my laptop in to be checked out because it was periodically seizing up, for no apparent reason. I agreed to a $49 diagnosis charge and was assured they wouldn't do anything more without calling me.

After a couple of weeks and having to go in in person just to show them the problem again (they said they couldn't reproduce it), they finally called and said they couldn't fix it. I went to pick it up, and to my amazement, they had done some Windows updates and were charging me $100. I pointed out that we had established when I first brought it in that it couldn't be Windows and demanded they undo it and give me my money back. They placated me with an assurance that their work was "guaranteed" and that they'd certainly give me my money back if the fix was no good.

And the fix was no good—just like their word, it turns out, because when I contacted them for my refund, first they ignored me, then they e-mailed me a short, counterfactual account of events that they wrapped up by saying " We will not be offering a refund, and consider this matter closed."

I don't expect they'll be able to fix every problem, but I do expect them to live up to their word. Please, never go here. If it's an easy problem, they might be able to fix it, but apparently when the going gets rough, they charge you without your permission and then lie about it. NOT recommended.

Re: “Mimmo's Italian Pizzeria and Restaurant

I often go to Mimmos in St. Albans, but this was my first visit to Essex. We ordered a pricey gluten free 12 inch pizza. The pizza we were served was nine inches. We were still hungry. We spoke to the server who fetched the manager. He told us the bakery makes them by hand and sometimes they are small. He said he could not offer us anything else because they were out of pizza crusts. He did not offer us a reduced price. He did not offer us anything else to eat like a salad, dessert or gluten free pasta. He basically told us it was our tough luck and he could offer us nothing. We got 25% less than the menu said, and he did not consider it a problem. I will never go here again.

Re: “Cody's Irish Pub & Grille

Terrible service, in with 2 kids and he passed us by 15 times before taking our order 13 min after i interrupted him passing us to tell him we were ready. to top it off the "hot" wings were way beyond the normal hot (and there were more levels to go) waste of my family's money and time. F this place.

Re: “Bluebird Barbecue

Very unsatisfying meal at Bluebird Barbecue. Hardly a cheap eats place, 9 dollars for 6 tiny chicken wings! Good but overpriced drink selection. The smoked half chicken was the most dry piece of meat I have ever tasted. Seemed like it had been cooked and rethermalized too many times prior to serving. One of the salads had wilted and rotten kale in it. Mac and cheese came out cold asked our server and he told us it was a problem with steam table most likely. Brought us another mac and although it was warmer still tasted very grainy and strange. Broken banana pie was the worst dessert we have ever had in a restaurant. We will not return. Food 1 Ambiance 1 Service 2

Re: “Marco's Pizza

Don't waste your money. I ordered a spaghetti dinner w/ meatballs. The meatballs and meat sauce had a burnt taste. Spaghetti was over cooked. Had to throw the dinner out. Not to mention the restaurant was dirty.

Re: “Prohibition Pig

We have tried this place twice and both times we were incredibly disappointed.... The first time we went for food... everything was bland and the portion sizes were remarkably small. The second time we went to check out the beers and the bar... We had been warned by many friends that live in Waterbury, to stay away from here...because of the prices and the paltry draft beer "portion" sizes. What a sad eye opener! My Waterbury friends were all correct... Prohibition Pig is leading the charge amongst northwest Vermont brewpubs, to reclassify draft beer as a specialty, gourmet, sipping beverage for the wealthy. They would have you believe that if they serve draft beer in very tiny portion sizes and charge astronomically high prices - then you are drinking liquid gold.. The problem is, most of their draft beers are available at dozens of other places for half or less (price). This bar (it is not a real brewpub) is just flypaper for the uneducated skiers and tourists that are passing through on their way south. I advise all Vermonters to steer wide of this place and their predatory pricing (as most Waterbury residents do). This bar is trying to create a price structure that is truly ridiculous.

Re: “Sofia's Pizzeria

I wrote the above review two years ago. However, I do not think I will be going back there. When I went there tonight to order two slices, i was treated like my order was not important, that they were not interested in having a customer. Could it be lack of skills or have they given up because there is better pizza in the neighborhood now. I am very disappointed and will not be going back to Sofia''s.

Re: “New Moon Café

Despite New Moon's self-promo, the vegan sandwich menu is not very extensive, nor is it particularly creative. But that's secondary. What is particularly troubling is that if you request your vegan sandwich heated or grilled it will be cooked on the same grill used to cook meat--which means your vegan sandwich is no longer vegan. The staff did not offer that bit of information; it was only when I asked where it would be grilled, and if there is a dedicated vegan grill, that I found out that meat sandwiches and "vegan" sandwiches are co-mingled. Be forewarned.

Re: “McCaffrey's Sunoco

I needed a new battery and alternator for my car. I had investigated what it would cost to buy the alternator from a local auto parts store...$119. When I went to McCaffrey's for a quote I was told $350 and this did not include the battery. I asked what they were charging for the alternator and they told me $219. A $100 mark up? When i mentioned the part was $119 at the local auto parts store the person said "I can't live on my labor cost alone." I responded "You can't live on $80 an hour?!"
$100 mark up on parts is absurd. I suggest finding a more honest mechanic.

Re: “Canadian Club

Rutland Area? Really? That's confusing. And if I am not mistaken, the Canadian Club is between Barre and East Montpelier on Route 14. Way to check for accuracy, Seven Days.

Re: “Ramunto’s Brick Oven Pizza (Williston)

I went in for a chicken parm sandwich. Both the menu board and regular menu said FRIED chicken cutlet. What Ramunto's served was a microwaved breaded piece of chicken. The breading easily slid off the previously frozen piece of chicken. When I asked the manager how it was fried he said it wasn't. I asked for my money back and got it. Avoid this place.

Re: “Positive Pie (Montpelier)

UNBELIEVABLY BAD. They were doing so well for months and months... then- KABOOM it all came tumbling down. Still decent slices at noontime, although the long line is not because the pizza is so good, but because the service is sloooooooooooooooooooooooo. If you order a pizza at night, however, chances are that you wont be able to eat it. They have no idea at all how to make their signature pies anymore, and if they think that the customers wont know the difference between mozzarella cheese and whey (which is what they now use on their pies)... well good luck! Every bite of pizza ended up as a tough hunk of waxy whey that had to be spit out. Shame on Positive Pie! Last time I was there at night I noticed that no one was having pizza... everyone was eating sandwiches. Makes sense.
