I am glad I came across this article! I just recently purchase a 1967, 7th edition copy of this book at my local thrift store, in Syracuse, New York!! I love reading through the recipes and can not wait to try some!
I used to work at the Dog Team and was very upset when the owner set that beautiful place ablaze. I'm sure if he hadn't it would still be doing a booming business, as it was packed even in very bad weather.
A pudding bowl/basin is available at King Arthur Flour and many other cookware shops. It makes it safe to leave the pudding in as the pudding can store for well over a year and still taste delicious. Also easy to heat up in a microwave if needed in a jiffy.
I just wanted to say thanks for all the wicked awesome information. We also have a 1939 edition. Going thru this treasure of a book was amazing. Thank you I will so enjoy recreating this whole book.
I've got a twentieth printing 1949 edition given to my Mom for a wedding present. I think it''s ths same one as mentioned above.
I have an original edition of this cookbook too (from my grandmother who used to summer in Dorset) - it has a different cover and was compiled by: Trinity Mission of Trinity CHurch, Rutland VT, and The Women's Service League of St. Paul's Church, Burlington, VT Copyright 1939. Great to see that it lives on.
