Re: “Safe Injection Site Commission Acknowledges Political Difficulties

Scott if you had reed any of my earlier post on the subject of the opiate epidemic you would know that I hold the doctors that handed out pills like candy the most responsible for the problem we face today. But no one ever made anyone inject themselves with drugs. And look at the numbers coming out of Canada, 250 out of 6500 is not a successful program. And at some point Scott people have to take personal responsibility for their actions and if they want to get clean they need to enter and pay for a rehab program themselves. It's time to stop depending on the government to save everyone.

I have a tenant who pays over a thousand a month in rent. He distrusts banks so he doesn't have an account.

Re: “Legal Pot Bill Clears Key Committee in Vermont House

This is what gives Vermonters pride in their state. As opposed to those who fear for their children if pot is legalized, or that road safety will be impaired, our people remember the advice of Benjamin Franklin, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Vermonters deserve personal freedom, with the confidence that we will use our freedoms responsibly.
Yes, on Bill H-170.

Re: “Up in Arms: Bill Would Let Cops Take Guns in Domestic Violence Cases

"But, she argued, the bill is the best way to address the threat hanging over domestic violence victims: "Unfortunately, firearms are used in these situations."

So you want to deem a person dangerous enough to warrant taking away their firearms, but not dangerous enough to take them into custody and keep them there? After which they can then use a baseball bat, their fists, boots, a kitchen knife, car/truck, chainsaw etc etc etc... I guess limited intellect equals limited solutions.

If Rhonda Gray had been killed with anything other than a gun, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. The focus would be on the killer and the root of the problem instead of on 1 object out of a possible 1000 that could have been used. Anyone that honestly believes that taking a gun out of the hands of a deranged person, turns them into a perfectly normal person, shouldn't be allowed to hold public office.

Re: “Safe Injection Site Commission Acknowledges Political Difficulties

Citizen, I gotta say - I really like the trolling. It's nice to have some levity, even when dealing with serious topics like this.

"[If] victims truly wanted to be law abiding and trustworthy, they would not have started using drugs in the first place."

Right, shame on all those people who developed chemical dependency after being legally prescribed opioids.

"This program is just a way for these officials to waste more money and time trying to fix an unfixable problem. The only way to stop the problem is to stop the drugs before they hit the streets."

Wait, just so we're clear - treating addiction as a health issue is trying to 'fix an unfixable problem,' but stemming the tide of all drugs is doable?

"The money this program would cost should be put into education and law enforcement programs."

Do we know what it would cost? This is a study. Furthermore, reaching users in a safe environment seems like a great opportunity to educate about long-term treatment options.

Re: “The Story Behind Lavish Chinese Dance Shen Yun

Thanks for this great, in-depth piece, Ken. This answers many questions I've had about this group and performance -- especially the in-your-face, over-the-top and EVERYWHERE marketing. I am so sick of seeing these ads everywhere I turn!

Re: “After Arrests, Attorney Says ICE is Targeting Migrant Justice

I'm not in the round them all up and ship them out camp but when breaking the immigration laws of a country it seems wise to try to keep a low profile so you don't face the natural consequence of being deported.

Re: “Safe Injection Site Commission Acknowledges Political Difficulties

Not sure if legalizing shooting galleries is a good idea . How will funding these places make things better for the "hundreds of Vermonters struggling with addiction." Won't this make the state complicit in hard drug use ? Won't this will make law , state and health officials partners in this destructive habit .

Re: “Legal Pot Bill Clears Key Committee in Vermont House

Governor Scott is playing games with roadside safety.

His own traffic safety experts have given legislative testimony saying that setting a legal THC limit is a bad idea, and that the way to deal with drugged driving (an existing problem whether or not we legalize marijuana) is to train more police officers as Drug Recognition Experts (DRE's) and ARIDE-level experts. They said drugged driving is more than just a marijuana thing, and setting random THC limits won't help at all.

Gov. Scott is ignoring his own expert advisors, and in doing so he's making our roads less safe. That's downright shameful.
