Re: “Burlington Council Candidate to Sue State’s Attorney for Discrimination

Hopefully, if Sall's civil suit moves forward, SA George will be compelled to reveal exactly why she fired Sall. I await the release of that info before passing judgment. That said, I personally know George to be extremely bright, capable, professional, fair and possibly the last person on earth who would unfairly discriminate against anyone for any reason. Also, it is clear that Mr. Sall has no problem playing a little "fast and loose" with the truth. If he prevaricated while working for George, then dismissal would have been automatic as a matter of law.

Re: “#Resist: How Trump's Election Has Ignited Vermont Activists

The Dems and Progs "resisted" mightily on election day Nov 8 and Hillary still lost, despite outspending Trump by a nearly 4-1 margin. The Dems/Progs/Socialists will need to convince an army of "independents" who voted for Trump to put their faith instead in the likes of Tom Perez, Nancy Pelosi, and Elizabeth Warren if the "resisters" hope to make significant Electoral or strategic gains in 2018 and/or 2020. Thankfully, a critical mass of voters understands that even whacky, narcissistic, thin-skinned, lyin' Trump is preferable to the Eliz Warrens and Tom Perezes whose leftist policies,if implemented, would turn the U.S. Into a pathetic 3rd-world banana republic where elitists rule by dictat, sloth is rewarded, living standards are lowered, and diligence, honesty, and merit are punished.

Re: “Vermont Senate Approves Bill to Limit ‘Duty to Warn’

"Vermont Senate swiftly passed a bill Friday ..." What bill? Must be too hard to link to the legislature I suppose.

Re: “Scott, No Fan of Trump, Heads to White House for NGA Meeting

"Scott, No Fan of Trump" ... Fan? Cheerleader? Is this sports or politics? "...voted for a bill that would insulate Vermont from enforcing controversial immigration edicts" ... Does the Senate bill actually do that? The bill seems to merely give the Governor the option to refuse deputization of state law enforcement. Conveniently, the actual bill number is left out of this and other articles. The peons can't handle the actual text I suppose. "This is about what I see as federal overreach in terms of our Constitution," ... a very tired state's rights argument. Get your pom-poms out!

Re: “New Vermont House Bill Would Legalize, Tax Marijuana Sales

"'If we're going to legalize marijuana, I think we should also tax and regulate it,' said Young, who is vice chair of the Committee on Ways & Means."

Thank you for this! I hope it goes through, with thoughtful consideration to several concerns:

That the House Judiciary committee has, "scaled back its proposal to legalize no more than one ounce of marijuana, rather than two as originally proposed, is problematic in that the original proposal came from the amount of dried herb from the allowed number of plants. Scaling it back is arbitrary and foolish given the realities.

"Scott knows there is no test to accurately measure cannabis impairment that's why he uses it as a way to say no. Meanwhile, drivers "under the influence" of cannabis continue to drive Vermont roads like they always have with no real issues." (from the comment above) Whether Scott does or doesn't know, it is true that there is no drug measurement test--at least according to AAA Insurance studies. Various strains of marijuana affect people's levels of concentration in various ways that cannot be mechanically measured. Trying to "Police" and criminalize "driving under the influence" when it is technically unmeasurable will take Vermont down a dangerous and very costly path.

From observing last year's testimony from "public safety officials," an attitude focused on impairment criminalizes further Vermont's roadways. Education is far more effective than criminalizing. Perhaps something similar to the "hands off cell phone" "distracted driving" ticket can save Vermont lots of money and serve the communities better.

As we have very recently and tragically seen, we have many potential distractions while driving (eating, children, conversations, anxiety, medication, schedules.... ) and we ALL need to be paying full attention when behind the wheel. We do not need further criminalization of anything.

PS: Beware the new edict from on high: Will State officials protect Vermont residents following Vermont's new laws when the Feds come to prosecute?

Re: “Scott, No Fan of Trump, Heads to White House for NGA Meeting

Phil is a nice guy who means to do good things for Vermont. Sadly, he is completely shackled by the Dem/Prog legislature that cannot find enough ways to overtax the residents of our beautiful but poor little state. His presence at the NGA will be little noted nor long remembered exactly because he feels compelled to voice his disdain for Trump to survive in the Vermont echo-chamber of Political Correctness. Trump won fair and square and a large chunk of Vermont residents will never stop whining. They fail to understand how immensely enjoyable and entertaining it is for some of us to observe them in checkout lines and parking lots bleating and mewling among themselves. Good luck Phil!

Re: “As BHS Students Watch, Vermont Senate Passes Immigration Bill

I cannot believe that Dustin Degree and Carolyn Branagan voted for this bill. We have so few jobs for Vermonters, some much difficulty running our schools to comply with Fed Ed, a new deal with the Fed to experiment with Healthcare and to top it off, our Governor announces that HALF our State Budget is comprised of Fed $. So the Fed is pulling our strings as our President tries to stop the flow of ILLEGAL Aliens, not immigrants. Why in the world would you pass a law that ties the hands of our small police forces who are now denied the right to enforce Federal Law. You want to be Sanctuary Cities here in Vermont. Watch our President take those Fed $ away. I am ashamed to live in a State that want's to tax legal citizens of VT to support a population of people who have already broken the law.

Re: “As BHS Students Watch, Vermont Senate Passes Immigration Bill

They are NOT undocumented immigrants,,,there is a difference..immigrants are ones who come here legally, they apply for citizenship, they want a job a home...undocumented is they came here illegally..they snuck in..they are not immigrants!!!!.They want to live off the government/state, they don't want to become a citizen
So in other words the illegals will get protection and get away with crimes, fraud while Vermont citizens will not be protected, will have to pay for the crimes these illegals commit, and we have to also support them..FACT!!!

I do hope Phil is strong enough to speak for Vermont with matters that go against Trump. Too many Republicans seem bent on playing puppet for the President.

Re: “Prosecutors to Drop 16 Cases After Burlington Cop 'Lied' About Stop

Cops have "privacy"?
"Police officers nationwide are legally allowed to deceive suspects and be 'creative' in questioning them to find ways to conduct searches, del Pozo said."
I had thought they need a legal reason to search a car or enter a house. Random, or profiling, traffic stops and searches will build more of a divide between the community and the Police.
Come on - innocent until proven tattooed?
Many believe the police could have been more creative in handling Phil Grenon! Let's use creativity for the right things.

The article says that "An annual membership costs a breathtaking $84,500." The Club's website says that a LIFETIME membership costs $85,000 for a family, with annual dues of $8,500 and for singles, $80,000 and $4,250. http://hermitageclub.com/join/membership-l…

Re: “Walters: Black Lives Matter Seeks Visibility

"I am Vermont Too" is more to the point than "Black Lives Matter," as ALL lives matter. BLM is divisive; "I am Vermont Too" is inclusive, assertive, and, in any and all instances and institutions where discrimination truly exists, should be a mantra.

Sadly, our opportunities for diversity are damped by our minuscule population, our nonexistent job opportunities and a Governor who's still in first gear -- all of which affect ALL Vermonters.

Job creation must be a priority for our Governor; proaction does not stop with election. Drive our state to win as you drove stock cars to win Thunder Road: People are much more important than trophies.

"Accelerate Vermont" should be our watchword, dammit. Put the pedal to the metal, Phil! Drive Vermont forward for all of us!

Re: “Walters: Scott’s Customer-First Environmental Stewardship

Thank god Annette Smith is on the case. But, true to form, no argument about political cronyism and the environment is complete without some mention of the whirly wigs that destroy our "sacred ridgelines," ruin peoples sleep, kills dogs, allowed the Russians to hack the utility grid, and I'm sure that in a few month we're going to be hearing that wind turbines actually CAUSE global warming.

Re: “Scott Administration Opposes Vermont Marijuana Legalization Bill

I've had Multiple Sclerosis for 34 years; marijuana makes my life more functional and reduces chronic whole-body, 24/7 pain, and cuts the depression associated with chronic debilitation. Currently I've got to jump through hoops and pay $100/year to the VT Criminal(?) Information Center for designation as a medical marijuana patient.

Stop dithering like _Ma Kettle_ or _Lucy Ricardo_ and make it legal: Sell it, tax it (save for verified, PERMANENT medical exemptions, and control it in liquor outlets.

Right now, Killer Alcohol is the norm (e.g. Sen. Ted Kennedy, q.v.). A Vermont State Trooper, coincidentally remarked, "At worst, a pot smoker on the road -- without alcohol -- would slow traffic... and sit at an intersection waiting for the stop sign to turn green!"
Marijuana slows one down; eases pain; helps with depression and does NOT, as does hooch, turn drivers into uncontrolled, barely punished vehicular murderers.

Q.E.D.

The development of Federal and Vermont legislators is arrested in 1939's "Reefer Madness" mentality while many need alcohol rehab. It's about time they grew a pair and grew up!

I look like what I am: I'm tall, white, I've got this sort of crazy beard, which, for me, reads academic-eccentric. And yet, I won't be stopped for looking ethic.

Chief del Pozo, you have a lot to answer for. Do it.
