Tiki, please.
The Telecom debacle was well documented, with closed meetings, vital information kept from councilors, and the discovery of a violation of a court order not to spend general fund dollars unless they could be paid back within 60 days. Facts, not fiction.
Mayor Kiss's inability to "recall", under oath, many events vital to the situation doesn't mean many of us don't still remember what happened. Revisionist history, indeed.
NorthOldEnder-
While people are intent upon hanging the current mayor to dry, I guess they are forgetting history: BT wasn't just a "screw-up". $17 million in taxpayer money was willfully and improperly channeled from city coffers to a failing telecom.
I guess we've also forgotten Bob Kiss okayed a deal with Lockheed-Martin, and let big hotel developers hold sway in the city. He couldn't make a go of revitalizing the Moran plant, and didn't maintain Memorial Auditorium.
Maybe people are more kindly disposed toward the shortcomings of a mayor with a big "P" in his political designation?
It's frustrating to me as it is to you, and others, that this project isn't up and running, but things like this do sometimes happen. Progress can be painful, but hey- no guts, no glory.
Also, respectfully, Executive Session has to be part of the democratic process. An elected official ought to have a full grasp of what's happening before dispersing information. Unlike the unfortunately loquacious Mr. Fellows, they have a responsibility to give the public the big picture, not just a handful of suppositions.
These are some of the best and brightest journalists I've seen, regularly breaking stories on important issues.
They have a teacher advisor. Why more oversight? The administration needs to listen more, vet more, and up its PR game.
Censoring the school newspaper isn't the answer.
"...Nine of 21 city department heads including outgoing Community and Economic Development Office director Noelle MacKay, Burlington Electric Department general manager Neale Lunderville and city planner David White also live outside Burlington."
I see the rub, but until the other department heads are no longer allowed to be exempted from the rule, it seems kind of silly to single out Dr. Obeng. What's good for one should be good for all, or change the rule.
Roger Ebert gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Rotten tomatoes says 4 1/2 out of five. The New York Times wrote, " "Wonder is that rare thing, a family picture that moves and amuses while never overtly pandering."
And, Variety said: "A drama of disarmingly level-headed empathy that glides along with wit, assurance, and grace, and has something touching and resonant to say about the current climate of American bullying."
I hate to call bullshit here, but you are off base about so many of the films you critique, I've got serious doubts you watch them in their entirety. Especially since you "intuited" the "following 115 minutes" of the film. It's time to hang up your reviewer's hat.
This has gone on far too long.
Donna Boutin...
"...Was it a video of black singers singing in it?"
"There was a bunch of colored boys..."
"...When do the statues start coming down in Vermont???
I guess you're right. Vermont never had a race problem.
litebrite42- I'm sorry. "...faith in his recovery process instead of holding things against him all the time"? "What "recovery process"? 900 contacts and 117 arrests since 2011 has to be some kind of record. I've known people who have suffered as much and still haven't visited this kind of suffering upon others. Please don't give him one more excuse to use as a crutch. The system isn't perfect, but there's help if he'll have it. At this point, I'm more concerned about the people who have to pay through their encounters with his pain and rage. I'm not of a mind to hide all our homeless. Neither do I want to have to worry about being assaulted when I take my family downtown.
Re: “El Gato Cantina (Burlington)”
No, thanks.
I find the claims that they make their beans from scratch to be difficult to believe. My refried beans were dry and pasty, so they were either from a can, or sat under warming lights way too long. Meat in my steak taco was overcooked. Drinks and service were good Food: 2 Ambiance: 2 Service: 4
