The Tavern has apparently made some major changes for the better. We went to the Tavern a bit hesitantly two nights ago because of some poor experiences a couple of years ago. We were very pleasantly surprised. The food was great, the menu was great, and the service was excellent (although possibly a little too quick). The management has obviously made significant changes. We will be back.

Lost Nation was a really nice change. It is simple and they don't offer a large variety of dishes, but what we tried was excellent. The staff incredibly nice. (The prices were also very low, especially for the excellent quality of both the food and beer).
As much as I love IPA's, it was nice to go to a brewery without the standard IPA on tap. It was fun to try some beers I had never had before. I had been wanting to try a Gose and finally got a chance. I was not disappointed. It was really interesting and very good.
Lack of response
This is a follow up to my 4 July review.
I wrote the facility a very polite email explaining what happened and how surprised we were to have such a poor experience. Interestingly, they never wrote back or called me even though they had our email address and phone numbers.
Does the lack of a response indicate that they have had so many complaints that they no longer care?
Suprisinglhy poor food and service
We have been going to the Tavern for years even during the time while it was shifting from the CulinaryInstitute to a private company. Generally the food has been fine with good service. We have really liked the changes that have occurred over the past year or so.
Today however, we were surprised by both the poor quality of the food and service.
DON'T get the Bento Box with seared Ahi Tuna. My wife's tuna was the consistency of paste and inedible. The other foods in the box were basically bland and tasteless. This was not worth the price of $17.
Today, our server was quite air-headed. She brought the wrong beer, forgot lemon although we asked for it several times, did not bring coasters (sitting outside on a hot day you need these to keep from dripping on yourself,
This used to be a great and very special place. The changes to combine the Tavern and Butler's Restaurant menus however have significantly lowered the quality of the dining experience in Butler's. No longer are there new items on the menu but the same thing again and again. No longer are the items at Butler's very special, gourmet, or anything different from what you can get just about everywhere in Burlington. No longer do you get the little special touches such as the before dinner appetizer tidbits or the truffles after dinner. While the servers are very nice and do try, the ambiance is now about the same as you get in a standard chain restaurant.
After years of going here for special occasions, my wife and I need a new gourmet restaurant in Chittenden County.
