Re: “SoBu Decision to Drop Rebels Nickname Sparks Backlash

This is what happens when every kid gets a trophy and we lose sight of the hard work and pioneering efforts our forefathers put into making this a once-great country. We need to get back to our roots as a strong nation and not present ourselves as a country full of snowflakes just ripe to be trodden over by special interest groups. Every time someone cries "butt hurt" over some name, color, action, or inclusion there are too many people just waiting to jump on the band wagon. All I can do is shake my head in disbelief. We are weak... we are doomed.

Re: “Ditching Donald: Will Trump Doom Vermont Republicans?

Any Republican (RINO) who does not support the party candidate does not need my vote. I may as well vote for a Democrat because there is essentially no difference whatsoever. The Democrats have done a stellar job of smearing Trumps campaign with all of his past indiscretions. How soon we have forgotten about Bill Clinton and his cigars! Really people? If that's how you judge the capability of a man to lead his country, we are indeed in a sad situation. I can even remember Marylin Monroe signing "Happy Birthday" to John Kennedy. So I would advise the RINO's to get off their damn high horses and stick with the party line. Otherwise, there is no need for them.

Re: “Shumlin: Vermont Will Continue to Welcome Syrian Refugees

The refugees I have seen photos of were military age males. And they will stand in front of our State Capitol and scream for all of the things they would not fight for in their native countries. Be prepared. This will get ugly. It's not immigration, it is an invasion.

Re: “Confederate Flag Riles Some City of Burlington Employees

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths to which some people will go to control what other people legally do or say. We played "yankees and rebels" as a child in Tennessee just as other kids played cowboys and indians. Get over it! This is one American who could start spouting off about what offends me but I excuse things because I believe in our freedoms!

Re: “Senate: Hands Off Cellphones at Stoplights

Honestly, I am a delivery driver for an auto parts store and I see more than most folks do on the roads. Making cell phone use illegal has not done much to curb use among "classic" offenders. There are too many people who feel that rules do not apply to them. I have seen little, if any, enforcement measures. Let's face it, with police departments stretched to their limits, the officers have little time to just sit around and wait for someone with an active phone conversation to drive by. I don't know what the answer is. Perhaps auto makers could add cell signal blocking devices to cars that would activate when the vehicle is put into gear?

Re: “One Year Later: Was Opiate Addiction Addressed?

I still wouldn't walk the streets of Rutland at night without a gun. I don't think much has changed. The thugs get busted and they just move to another dump house and setup shop again.

Re: “Faced With Revenue Downgrade, Shumlin Orders Budget Cuts

Typical of a Socialist Democrat... Mr. Shumlin might be seeing what working conservatives have been preaching for the past 6 years. Socialism only works up until the point you reach when you run out of other people's money to spend. What we need in Vermont are some productive and well-paying jobs and a whole lot less spending on people whom are not willing to be productive. It seems that good jobs are not service industry or retail minimum-wage positions. Perhaps we could look at making Vermont friendly to industry?
