Re: “Burlington Will Investigate Alternatives to Buffer Zone

A person has the right to access a health care facility protected from "obstructing, detaining, hindering, impeding, or blocking a person's entry or exit from a clinic." No one questions that part of the ordinance which has survived the Supreme Court's ruling.
Why is there an "urgency" to protect anyone from speech that they would rather not listen to? Isn't being subject to unwanted speech the price we pay for our own ability to speak our minds?

Re: “Burlington's No-Trespass Ordinance Is Working, But Its Days May Be Numbered

The examples given of people causing trouble within stores are a red herring. A store owner, or the owner of any private property has the right to issue a no trespass order to anyone the owner deems to be undesirable, so long as the order does not discriminate against a protected class under the Public Accommodations Act.
The rationale for this ordinance sounds a lot like what we heard from NYC justifying "Stop and Frisk."

Re: “The Vermont Statehouse is Crawling With Lobbyists; What Does That Mean For Our Democracy?

We chickens don't get any money for security, so we have to hire the foxes to guard the henhouse.

The figure of $6.1 million paid to 398 lobbyists comes out to $15, 326 apiece. Perhaps they should lobby for a bill requiring to paid at least minimum wage? Or maybe the reporting numbers are cooked?

Re: “Morning Read: Single-Payer and the Vermont Progressive Party in the NYT

For decades the Progressives have been appealing to those Democrats who are getting fed up with the lack of a progressive agenda within the Democratic Party. I left the Dems to become a Prog about 8 years ago. This is a party that has never been divided on the issues that matter to me; single payer health care being one of them.
If not for the Progs breathing down their necks, I doubt if the Dems would be moving on any of the issues that challenge the free reign of a market economy, controlled by an oligarchy.

Re: “Sometimes You Just Have to Vent About Cellphones

Maybe if the band wasn't playing so loud, she wouldn't have had to shout. Did Kronos even consider taking a short break so she could conduct her call? Probably not.
