Re: “Gas Gauge: Champlain Islanders Aren’t Sure About a Proposed Maplefields in South Hero

We need to stop going/buying form his stations! The only way to stop bully is to stand up to him.
I LOVED the quote: "In any event, Vallee emphasized, the law does not say a new business can't compete with an existing one. "I don't think that's part of the zoning analysis," Vallee asserted."

One word: COSTCO!

Re: “Since Pot's Legalization, Vermonters Have Been Fined for Public Use

I remember going to an outdoor concert right after it became legal and EVERYONE was smoking, blowing it in our faces and at all the little kids around us. Im totally for it being legal but totally against it being in my face. Hopefully folks getting tickets will help with that problem.

Re: “State of Need: How Vermont Tried and Failed to Cut Child Poverty in Half

Jay-Man.....did you read the article? The reason someone would turn down a raise is because of what is known as benefit cliffs. Say you are just getting by...and your boss offers you a $1an hour increase which = $40 a week or $160 a month. BUT that puts you over limit for your $300 a month food stamps so your net loss is $140 a month. If you were just getting by before, $140 less a month means no food on the table. The system needs to be fixed to help people move out of poverty, not make them even worse off.

Re: “Despite Hefty New Fines, Truck Drivers Still Try the Notch

Maybe posting a stop sign at both ends of the road would help. In addition to the stop sign could be the sign telling the tractors and the buses they are not going to fit. I think the signage there now is just too small and people don't notice it. They might see if better if they were forced to stop before going onward.

Re: “A 'Motel' for the Homeless Fights to Stay in Shelburne

help people....but not in MY back yard!

my taxes are too high....but a program that saves the state $700,000 a year??? not in my city!

There's more crime in the area .....but Chief Warden observed that the type of criminal activity at the property has changed under the new ownership. "Back when it was the Econo Lodge, we handled a lot of calls with drug dealers coming in there, armed. We'd find people wanted out-of-state — heavy hitters like that."

Willing to talk the talk but not walk the walk.....NOT IN MY BACKYARD
sad.....very sad!!!

Re: “After Raid, Police Commissioners Say DEA Is Overzealous

I'm all for raids and think that it often takes toooo long before they are done. BUT back in 2001 I recall standing next to my car outside a business on North St one morning at about 7:30 when a raid took place next door. I was on one corner of a four way intersection, the house being raided was on the other. (at the time I owned a service company and was waiting for the owner of the business to get there so I could remove some equipment) No one said a word to me or told me to at least get in my car for protection. Very scary to think what could have happened if someone in the house started firing a gun.
