Re: “Are the Rich Really Running From Vermont's 'Death Tax'?

I spent 35 years operating a moving company in Chittenden County. The high tax rates in the State of Vermont contributed to our revenues by motivating people to seek less taxing venues. I can assure you high tax rates DO motivate people to move out of the State. There were some years I was tempted to send flowers to the legislators expressing my gratitude.
My comments may be anecdotal but my experience is not. Pat Robins speaks the truth - uncomfortable as it is.

Re: “Slideshow: A Fond Farewell to the Cottonwoods of Poplar Drive at Shelburne Farms

This story reminds me of the number of Vermonters it takes to change a light bulb - one to change it an two to discuss what a great light bulb the old one was.
Poplar tress grow fast and I doubt that the ones that came down predate 1886.

Re: “As He Considers a 2020 Presidential Run, Bernie Sanders Refuses to Pledge to Serve Full Senate Term

I think maybe you didnt hear me the first time," Sanders said. "I ran for president of the United States. And when you run for president of the United States, you actually go around the country. You have to campaign in order to do that."
The facts are the majority of Vermonters elected him to represent them in the Senate - they did not elect Sen. Sanders to run for the presidency and neglect his duties as the junior Senator from Vermont.

Re: “Walters: Planned Parenthood Won't Endorse in Gubernatorial Race

"We are a nonpartisan organization and don't think women's health issues should be partisan."

Well, the "nonpartisan organization" is not shy about being partisan as it relates to the Lt. Gov, Sec. of State, AG and Treasurer.

Re: “Murky Waters: Who's Writing Vermont's Clean Water Regulations?

A rational approach to addressing the pollution of Lake Champlain would be to identify the biggest polluter. The major polluter is not roof run-off or parking lot run-off. The largest pollution source is phosphorus emanating from farms. Why not devote an article to the agricultural run-off? When that problem has been successfully addressed, you can focus on lesser sources of pollution such as urban run-off.
