Re: “Victory Hemp Foods Closes Middlebury Facility

This article is interesting since the Agency on Agriculture informed the VT Commissioner of Health this summer "that the hemp grown with Joel Bedard was a seed and fiber variety and is generally recognized as safe and perfectly appropriate for animal feed." "800 pounds of hemp it harvested, according to Hausman, who said the stuff is in her garage. At this point, she said, shell probably donate it to a farm for animal feed. " At the FDA testimony in DC the head of the the Penn animal food supply said that HEMP [( apart from the seed variety)] is not yet proven safe is "definitely not now in the PENN food supply" ..SO what "cannabis sativa" is being fed to animals in Vermont? https://www.sevendaysvt.com/OffMessage/arc….

Re: “The Cannabis Catch-Up: New Weed Political Action Committee in Town

This is a false statement: "its been effectively regulated and sold in these United States for quite a while". In places where pot is commercialized in the US, the kid poisoning rate is highest in the nation, the dangerous elevated THC levels are highest in the nation, product still contains mold, lead, pesticides heavy metals. California has an 18% fail rate for their products and Oregon was only able to test 3% of stores and one third of growers https://apnews.com/2cb04323f9074c1ca280016…
If seven days wants to quote pro pot advocates with out fact checking, please solicit views from organizations advocating for good public health policy in Vermont for their articles as well like VHD, PFF and SAM-VT .

Re: “Vermont Hemp Company and Grower Agree to Settle Lawsuit

Sasha, Thank you very much for another informative article. "800 pounds of hemp it harvested, according to Hausman, .. said, shell probably donate it to a farm for animal feed" Are Vermonters aware that livestock are being feed cannabis sativa (hemp) as this article suggests? Would any THC present in the VT milk supply be the nail in the coffin of VT dairy? Please see article published in CLINICAL TOXICOLOGY28(2), 255-260(1990). Also ERIN BUBB from the Penn Dept of Agriculture testified to the FDA yesterday that PENN is not allowing hemp feed to livestock because this is not deeded safe. FDA officials were concerned to hear about CBD or THC or other active components of cannabis sativa (HEMP) possibly entering the US food supply through feeding cannabis sativa ( Hemp) to livestock such as dairy cattle.

Re: “The Cannabis Catch-Up: Is Your CBD the Real Deal?

Sasha, Excellent article. Thank you. Please also let your readers know that CBD interferes with Coumadin a blood thinning agent which cardiac, stroke and other patients are taking to prevent clotting or a second myocardial infarction or stroke. Please also let your readers know that it is recommended that liver function tests be monitored in patients taking CBD. And that CBD/THC fed to livestock in France has been linked to birth defects. There is also some evidence that CBD can transform into THC in the acidity of the stomach and of course CBD often has THC and the concentration of THC is also unpredictable. So if you are taking CBD for psychosis it could re-trigger a THC addiction or could trigger a THC related psychotic or panic event. Of course THC is now linked to cardiac events and stroke so those patients must exercise extreme caution. CBD interferes with immunosuppressive drugs so those with solid organ transplants must be very careful not to lose their life saving kidney. CBD potentiates anti seizure medicine making the effect more powerful and the drug interferes with anesthesia so if you are planning out patient surgery (or are at risk for emergent surgery) best to lay off the CBD.

Re: “With Frank Obituaries, Families Aim to Lay Stigmas to Rest

I have so much to say about this article but I will just say this: this is not the whole story and the elephant in the room is not being discussed. I miss Patty. This is an american tragedy and a vermont tragedy. I grieve her death.

Re: “Vermont Legislature Adjourns Without Fanfare as Scott Promises Veto

Colorado ER Doctor Karen Randall, MD:" we have opened pandoras box.. this is a nightmare. The marijuana industry does everything they can to beat us down and they have the funds to do it. Since MJ business started here, they quote they brought 1300 jobs to the area. HOWEVER, . all low paying, minimum wage jobs, so [have they] really improved our economy. Certainly, no improvement in schools, police force or ability to provide medical care. The providers here are beaten daily. My hospital has 300 or so beds .. we have had 120% occupancy for the last 2.5 years. Prior to that, no waits for beds, but now.. Along with the marijuana, came increase in opiates and meth. Cartels are not stupid, they have people here and they sell the heroin and meth cheaper than the marijuana. ..all the people who have come here on a fixed (usually some type of disability) income, spend what they can and then turn towards the cheaper substances (meth/heroin) at the end of the month...ER daily overdoses. ICU has had at a minimum 2 patients/day who are ill secondary to drug related complication. Every shift Some young person, addicted to drugs, new to Colorado, wanting more services (medicaid, assistance, food stamps, housing, etc). .Every time we publish the stats, the marijuana folks are there calling us liars. I have been threatened on a number of times for my stance against marijuana (as have the other members of our..group). I think that its interesting that when we present facts, the MJ side yells, threatens and does everything they can to discredit us. YET, the first place they come when they get in trouble is straight to us.. Most members of my group (a long standing private ED group) want to leave".
