I find it interesting that the Police Chief decided to liken the AR-15 to the type of gun that he used in the National Guard, rather than to the standard issue 'patrol rifle' that all of his BPD officers carry. Very disingenuous to make that parallel while suggesting that the public should forego access to such a weapon.
This is a victory for long term legalization efforts. The language in every version of these bills was abhorrent. One version only allowed corporate interests to take control, and another expanded police authority on the roadside. I am not sure why our elected officials routinely miss the point entirely. I would rather take my chances buying and smoking locally grown weed than getting it at Starbucks and allowing the police to take my DNA on the side of the road.
'We can be the first state that does it right'. Not by enacting the will of the people, but by passing a bill that is the most restrictive and beneficial to our state government.
It just goes on and on. I am self employed. If I don't go to work, I don't get paid. Is there a mechanism in this bill that helps me? How about a break in my taxes if I get sick?
One shooting in 2015 and here we go again with the 'make me safe' parade. Not to mention the shooting was probably with an illegally obtained firearm.
This is definitely just one more pathetic attempt for law enforcement to keep their sticky little fingers in the weed game. I wish lawmakers would just do their jobs and enact the will of the people. It is getting ridiculous. If, how, why, or when people smoke pot is not changing here. Whether people drive stoned is not changing either. The only thing we want changed is the LAW. It is YOU that is undergoing a change Government, NOT the people. Do your job. Get it done. Life will go on.
Re: “Green State Gardener Plants Stake in Cannabis Market”
Wow, some pretty mean spirited comments on this article. I don't know anything about how this business was financed, just like the other commenters here, but I can say that almost all businesses start with funding from friends and family. If you want to hate on a trust funder, maybe pick one that spends all week at the mountain instead of someone trying to make a go at starting a local business. It seems that there is a blossoming market here, so hats off to some local entrepreneurs that are trying to make ago of it, particularly as the State drags its feet. If you think you could do a better job I would encourage you to open your own business and compete. Cream rises to the top.
