Waylon Speed — For years Burlington’s Waylon Speed have not-so-quietly made a name for themselves in Vermont. We call their high-octane blend of country and metal “speedwestern.” But recently, that Slayer-meets-Waylon Jennings sound has begun to attract ears beyond our borders. The band’s 2014 album, Kin, is easily among the finest local releases of the year and has helped national audiences discover what Vermonters have known all along: Waylon Speed rock. Underground outlaw dirt rock, as they put it.
