Re: “Before the Civil Rights Act, Vermont's 'Tourist Homes' Welcomed Black Travelers

Late to the dance but I literally was just at the "Pate Hotel" 30 minutes ago dropping off lesson plans for one of my students. Walked back home and saw the house mentioned on the awesome "Burlington Area History" FB group. That led me to this article which blew my mind! Great research. Great community.

Re: “Cultural Mosaic: Rapper K Prince Encourages Positive Thinking

Thanks for writing this. I am amazed at your ability to get so much information out of your subjects. I allegedly "know" K-Prince but here I am learning all about him through your writing.

Re: “Friend's Nepali Restaurant Comes to Winooski; Mr. Shawarma Closes in Essex Junction

I saw Ram yesterday and was delighted to hear that he was running his own restaurant. I realized his passion for food when he was helping me buy peppers at Central Market.

Re: “Guerilla Artist Donates Oversize Xylophones to Burlington School

This is a wonderful addition to the school. My first sight of the instrument included two first graders banging out a complete tune. Thanks to the artist. Let's all resolve never to call these xylophones since those are made of wood. "Glockenspiel" is probably better (though of course the maker gets to decide.)

Re: “The Parmelee Post: Civil Engineers Mystified by Presence of Human Life Within Winooski Traffic Circle

Thanks for this brilliant satire. Winooski has a chief engineer who repeatedly has shut down sidewalks on the bridge and elsewhere for the "safety" of pedestrians. These pedestrians are then forced to walk in traffic. Many engineers who otherwise do great work can lose sight of the purpose of their work while they focus on speedy throughput of traffic.

Re: “Scott Wants Local Officials to Defy Trump’s Immigration Order

This terrible executive order, which is opposed by most Republicans, would make many working Vermonters into criminals if they went to Montreal for the day and then tried to come back home to Vermont. Basically everyone opposes this except a few Trump partisans who are just trying to score political points at the expense of their fellow Vermonters.

Re: “Judge Criticizes Burlington Police Stop, Search of Black Man

Brandon del Pozo wrote a scholarly article in which he endorsed racial profiling as well as "Stop and Frisk" tactics. Since he strongly supported these tactics then and since he continues to defend these tactics even when contradicted by a judge I think we can conclude that Burlington has the wrong person in charge of our police department.
