Re: “SoBu Decision to Drop Rebels Nickname Sparks Backlash

In the early 1960's South Burlington High School was established. It's first nick name was 'Light Blue'. Later the name "Rebel" was officially adapted. Make no mistake, the name was adopted to mark the 100th anniversary of secession, followed March 4, 1861 with the inauguration of President Lincoln and. April 1861 by the firing on Fort Sumter by Citadel Student / Troops. Make no mistake about Rebels of 2017, 1960's 1890's or 1860's Photographic Yearbook evidence depicts 'Colonel Reb', with walking cane, Stars and Bars flag, KKK hoods.
the constant playing of 'DIXIE' on and on. Not sure if the had Slave Auction, but UVM had one during Kake Walk. Yes it hurt then and now. NO positive motivation.. Only two things you have to do. "Treat your neighbor like yourself" and "Do good work". Where does 1960's rebel fit in? Segregation? KKK? Mid night fire bombings? 'I did not know' does not fit any more than "Alternative Facts" (what a great term. Evil, dumb, but Great) Nuf said.

Re: “Judge Tosses Burlington Telecom Lawsuit, Jonathan Leopold Feels "Vindicated"

EVIDENCE of wrongdoing. Lacking. The New North End city council members continue a costly ill advised reactionary witch hunt. EVIDENCE! Now lets elect reasonable city council members and forget about the "shoot from the hip" style of Osier, Scott Shumski, Kirk and so many others.

Re: “Rutland Herald Fires News Editor Over Coverage of Paper’s Woes

If the Rutland Herald / Montpelier Barre-Times Argus needs financial help, start a Burlington paper to drive the Free Press the rest of the way into Lake Champlain; We've waited with Baited breath for years for a NEWSPAPER, not a super market tabloid hand out costing $1.75!!!. I have the feeling the Owner/Publisher may not have the foresight to recognize a golden egg. Second Generation is usually caretaker by nature, no fresh ideas, too much caution, no adventure..If Capitalism works (HA, HA,HA), things would be better. It does not work.

Re: “Confederate Flag Riles Some City of Burlington Employees

The first amendment does not protect hate speech, libel, false report (fire in a movie theater) etc. The problem I have with this whole 'rebel' uproar is there is no positive result. For 150 years we have been toying with this foolishness. The largest loss of life in a single day of war in world history is July 2 1863 at Gettysburg. Mostly
American, many Irish and some Canadians on the Union Side were killed. That is what the Stars and Bars and other confederate flags remind us of. In the year 2015 it reminds us of Hate and Discontent, nothing else. Over
the years I have been appalled at the lack of knowledge and inquiry on the part of teachers at South Burlington High School
