There are tons of enticing Vermont Restaurant Week menus in Burlington, but even locals may want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city. And they needn't travel too far for a breath of fresh air and easy parking.
The Belted Cow Bistro in Essex Junction is known for its upscale, contemporary American fare. But chef John Delpha is also introducing new, less expensive dishes on his $25 menu. Look for smoked chicken in an agave-nectar glaze or a smoked chicken sandwich on Texas toast. If you're really hankering for some 'que, order ahead. Barbecue champion Delpha will treat you right.
For $35, you get four courses at Toscano Café/Bistro in Richmond. Appetizers include crispy artichoke hearts and potato-garlic soup, but save room for a Caesar or mixed lettuce salad, too. Italian classics such as chicken piccata are among the entrées, but desserts lean toward France with chocolate mousse and crème brûlée.
