Online Media Notebook: Andrew Sullivan's moving

Posted By on Mon, Nov 14, 2005 at 1:52 PM

Hey, Andrew Sullivan is moving to Time.com. I check his blog frequently because I enjoy his mostly conservative but independent slant, and because he's a durn good writer. This is an interesting bit of news because he's heretofore been independent, and now Time has wooed him into their mainstream media fold. So it's a story of the MSM embracing blogging.

It's sort of like how Seven Days wooed me to their website — Sullivan has long been a Time contributor — though it's certainly on a grander scale. After all, he gets a bazillion hits a day, and I get maybe 100 or so, if I'm lucky.

Also, I wanted to amend something I wrote last week. My esteemed editor Pamela Polston tells me that she does in fact read a few blogs, and reviews both Seven Days blogs each week. She also says she spends a portion of her non-work time online. I mention this because last week I said I wasn't sure if either of my eds spend much non-work time online, and P-Po does. I stand corrected!

Social Sentinel, a Burlington-based company that identifies threatening content on social media, was among the winners of the 2018 Tech Jam awards, presented last Friday at the 12th Vermont Tech Jam. The prizes, given annually by the Vermont Technology Alliance, BTV Ignite and Seven Days, recognize leaders in the state's tech ecosystem. The awards ceremony was the culmination of a busy day at the free career and tech expo organized by Seven Days and presented by Vermont Works. Representatives from more than 50 companies and colleges talked with hundreds of attendees who walked the expo floor. Jeff Couture, executive director of the Vermont Technology Alliance, said he talked with job seekers from across Vermont and outside the state at the event, "including someone, suitcase in hand, who visited from North Carolina."
