Waterworks Food + Drink in Winooski stopped in-house dining and takeout service on Tuesday and will remain closed for the foreseeable future, according to owner David Abdoo. He said the 285-seat restaurant on the Winooski River will reopen for business when it's viable to do so.

Neil and Perry  Farr opened Scale Poké Bar in Williston in March of 2018. Fewer than three years later, in the middle of a pandemic, they are opening a second location in Essex Junction at 137 Pearl Street.

New Moon Café is moving into its next phase, and the café at 150 Cherry Street in Burlington will be buzzing as the new home of Vivid Coffee next month.

Vivid will take over the airy, street-level space that has housed New Moon for the past 13 years, opening its own café and moving its roasting operations from Scout & Co. in Winooski.

Red Onion Café to Leave Church Street, Open in Charlotte

After 30 years on Church Street in Burlington, the Red Onion Café will move to Charlotte at the end of October.

The Red Onion will sell its beloved sandwiches, soups, salads and homemade breads from a retail location in Charlotte Crossings, the multi-use commercial building at 3488 Route 7.

Owner Mickey West announced the move in a press release Thursday. In July, West told Seven Days she was looking to relocate due to the effects of the pandemic.

That’s what’s happening at 690 Fulton Street in Fort Greene, where Burlington’s Pingala Café will open the Broccoli Bar on October 10, according to Trevor Sullivan, owner of Pingala and co-owner of the new Broccoli Bar.

Vermont Restaurants and Retailers Support University of Vermont Cancer Center

Things may look very different at local restaurants this fall but many are continuing their seasonal tradition of supporting the annual University of Vermont Cancer Center fundraiser.

In partnership with Farrell Distributing, 20 restaurant plus 20 retailers will donate $1 to the Cancer Center for every qualifying bottle of wine from the Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits portfolio or 12-pack of von Trapp Brewing beer sold during September and October.  (See here for a full list of participating locations.)

Stone’s Throw Pizza will open its third pizzeria  — this one at 86 Ferry Road in Charlotte — in late fall or early winter,  according to co-owner Silas Pollitt.

The Charlotte branch of Stone’s Throw will be takeout only. The business will serve pizzas, salads and desserts to-go, and have a retail component that sells beer and wine, housemade pickles and kimchi, and pizza dough, according to Pollitt.

“There’s lots of brainstorming going on,” Pollitt said.  "The concept allows us to exercise the imagination a little bit.”

Lion Turtle Tea Opens in Burlington

After nearly two years of popping up around Burlington, Lion Turtle Tea has a permanent home at 135 Pearl Street. The teahouse opened on September 1 in the space that most recently housed Papa John's Pizza.

Co-owners Jace Jamason and Tim Williams found the spot half a block from the top of the Church Street Marketplace this spring, after a previous location didn't work out.

"Our timing was super unintentional," Jamason told Seven Days. "We were able to get in here in May, so we knew the pandemic was already happening. But we've been working on opening for about two years, so we were like, 'OK, let's do this.'"

Farmhouse Tap & Grill Closes for Two Days Due to Customer COVID-19 Test

The Farmhouse Tap & Grill in downtown Burlington has closed Sunday and Monday this week after learning that a customer who ate there on Wednesday, August 26, had since tested positive for the coronavirus, owner Jed Davis said. The patron called the Farmhouse on Saturday night to tell the restaurant about the test result.

“The customer was kind enough to call us,” Davis told Seven Days Sunday afternoon. “I definitely appreciated it. It’s not a call you want to receive, but you’re thankful to receive it.”

New Yorkers Bring New Indian Restaurant to Burlington

A pair of New Yorkers will soon open an Indian restaurant at 207 Colchester Avenue in Burlington, where India House served up tandoori chicken and pakoras from the early 1980s until closing in October 2019.

Co-owners Priyank Shah and Sikander Badhan said they hope their Elaichi Indian Restaurant & Bar will be open for takeout, delivery and reduced-capacity indoor seating by the end of August, although they believe the liquor license will take a little longer.
