Music Punk Duo NODON Release New Anti-Trump EP, 'NODON 2020'

With the U.S. presidential election looming on Tuesday, November 3, Burlington power-punk duo NODON just released a new, politically charged EP called NODON 2020, their first output in over three years. Band members Seth Gundersen and Tristan Baribeau, who both played in the dormant indie-rock band Villanelles, started the project in late 2016, shortly after the election of President Donald Trump.
"We felt like we had to get it going while we were still really pissed off," Gundersen told Seven Days in 2016.
According to the band's Bandcamp page, "NODON is a political punk band rising from the ashes of the 2016 Presidential election. We abhor bigotry. We demand equality!"
NODON 2020 is a return to form, calling on the uncomfortable combination of grinding punk and acerbic political commentary for which NODON are known.
For example, the band throws shade at the family separation of undocumented immigrants on "Kids in Cages" and comments on the entirety of the Trump administration on "Dumpster Fire." On the latter, Baribeau and Gundersen scream, "Through the thinnest of veils / He spins the tallest of tales / Don't trust your ears or eyes / Fanning the flames of a dumpster fire / Donald Trump is a fucking liar!"
Baribeau and Gundersen recorded the new tunes in separate quarantines, piecing the songs together via email. In a message to Seven Days, they said they hope "it's the last one we have to do."
"Not a lot has changed as far as sentiment, but 'Fuck Trump and his old white male cronies' in short sounds about right, but that is a given," Baribeau wrote.
"[We're] just so disgusted by the Republican Party and their blatant disregard for bi-partisan [sic] politics for enabling Trumpism ... This is one of our best ways to fight right now."

The band was most active during the first year of Trump's presidency. Its first release, President Fuckboi EP, dropped in late November of 2016. The caustic, five-song collection included a mix of originals, like the scathing, title track, as well as a few recognizable covers from bands like the Wipers and Nirvana. In June of 2017, the group put out Covfefe EP, the title of which referred to a mystifying, viral tweet from the President.
