After a considerable hiatus, the Mammals reemerged in 2018 with a new album, 'Sunshiner.' Two of the Woodstock, N.Y., folk-rock band’s founding members — married couple Ruth Ungar and Mike Merenda — spent that nearly 10-year gap cranking out records as the rootsy duo Mike + Ruthy. In resurrecting their original project, Merenda and Ungar return to a hearty blend of Americana sounds: blues, rockin’ alt-country, breezy jazz and all manner of country stylings. The couple is also known for kick-starting the biannual Hoot! festival in New York’s Hudson Valley, which showcases similarly twangy artists in both summer and winter. Check out the Mammals on Friday, May 18, at the Higher Ground Showcase Lounge in South Burlington.
