Turkuaz, DJ Joe Bell Staff Picks

Brooklyn’s Turkuaz are a nine-piece power-funk ensemble clad in candy-colored party outfits — and they sound as sweet as they look. The nonet’s blend of modern funk, extended grooves and danceable rhythms has an old-school kick equally likely to please fans of the Dap Kings, the Pointer Sisters and even the most diehard jam-band devotees. It’s nearly impossible to stand still as the group busts out choreographed dance moves, poppin’ horns and taut vocal harmonies. The band’s latest single, “On the Run,” is disco-infused bliss. Turkuaz make three stops this week: Thursday, February 1, at the Pickle Barrel in Killington; Friday, February 2, at the Higher Ground Ballroom in South Burlington, with local turntable wiz DJ Disco Phantom; and Saturday, February 3, at Stratton Mountain Resort, with support from DJ Joe Bell.
