Will and Judy Stevens showed up last weekend among the Addison County farmers and food producers who participated in the area's first "Tour de Farms." Cyclists rode planned routes with plenty of stops at orchards, fields and dairies, sampling some of the area's finest cooking and freshest products.
While organizers expected about 100 participants, they were shocked to see more than twice that number. "We never thought it would be quite so large. People were so excited and so hungry for it. It was really very wonderful," boasts Jonathan Corcoran. "There were people from Addison County who I recognized, but there were also people from further afield."
The event was such a hit that organizers are already starting to think about next year, although one eager participant "asked if we could do this every week," says Corcoran.
Though riders had their pick of three routes - the longest being 30 miles - they all ended up at the Shoreham Inn. There, many were seen sipping cool glasses of Will Stevens.
