He graduated from the former Swanton High School and on June 22, 1996, was married to Lynda Richard who survives him. Allen has been employed for over 30 years with Champlain Cable of Colchester and in earlier years worked construction.
In addition to his wife Lynda, Allen leaves his daughter Amber Unwin and her fiancée Bryan Duprey of Highgate; his father, Leonard Unwin of Swanton; five grandchildren, Lexus Conger, Ashlyn Duprey and Shaina, Mckenna and Gavin Benjamin; his brother, Mark Unwin of Swanton; step-daughter, Kanani Benjamin and her husband Randy of Daytona Beach, FL; step-son, Cory Abell of St. Albans; son-in-law, A.J. Conger of Sheldon; special friends and in-laws, Carolyn and James Demers as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his mother Marion, Allen was predeceased by a daughter, Laura Unwin Conger in 2011 and a brother Roger Unwin.
Allen considered his greatest achievement to be his two beautiful daughters and his greatest joy his five grandchildren.
Allen made our world so much more beautiful. He surrounded us with love, transformed ugliness into grace with his carpentry skills and turned our backyard into the Garden of Eden. If there are gardens in Heaven they will bloom more beautifully now that Allen is there.
