Obituary: Mary Downes

She was born in Colchester on January 22, 1929 the daughter of George and Melvina (Rayta) Prim.

Mary was a devoted homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and especially camping and her great-grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Downes and Roberta Downes and by a son Theodore Downes; a granddaughter Sara Downes; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Emily Downes and by a very close family Friend Mary Tilley; also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Bert R. Downes; two sons, Bert R. Downes, Jr. and John Downes; and by her many siblings. The family wishes to thank Melissa Salatino for helping to fulfill our mother’s wishes of remaining at home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:00 am in Holy Cross Catholic Church on Church Road in Colchester. Burial will follow in Mallett’s Bay Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday evening from 4 to 6:45 pm in the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.
