Burlington Woman Wins a Folding Bike

Published May 6, 2009 at 3:43 p.m.

Last week Marla Ferber, who describes herself as "a local Burlington gal, senior citizen," contacted Seven Days to say she'd won a folding bike called the E-Z Pack from a Louisiana-based company. Ridethisbike.com was offering up one free ride as an Earth Day gift for the person with the best "sob story" about why they needed it, as determined by site viewers. Ferber won with 40 percent of the vote.

I saved this because it seems like a nice nugget for Way to Go! Week. I'm not a bike person and I've never heard of a folding bike, but apparently you can carry them right into the market or video store with you. (They're ultra-light and not exactly cheap.) Check out Ferber's account of receiving her free bike; she likes it so much she named it. She writes in her home-crafted press release, "If you see Marla and her ride around town, feel free to greet them with the time-honored 'Hi ho Silver, awaaay!'"
