Golden Opportunity: Senator Russ Feingold Visits Vermont

Local Matters

Bernie Sanders

Published January 11, 2006 at 4:14 a.m.

U.S. Senator Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin) toured Vermont last weekend to stump for Vermont Congressman -- and Senate candidate -- Bernie Sanders. The lawmakers met with reporters at the Wyndham Hotel in Burlington before driving to public events and fundraisers in Brattleboro and Norwich. Feingold, a possible Democratic candidate for president in 2008, said he travels often to support candidates, but was particularly happy to get to a call from Vermont's independent rep. "No request made me happier or more excited," he gushed. Feingold happily pointed out that he and Sanders share positions on energy independence, campaign finance reform, outsourcing of manufacturing jobs, and the USA PATRIOT Act -- Feingold was the only senator to vote against the controversial legislation. He said Sanders' election in November would be "an enormous help" to him -- then "there will be two senators who voted against the USA PATRIOT Act."
