Re: “Album Review: D. Davis, 'Hopeful'

Just dont let Mr. Davis fool you with those graceful, sweet and gentle sounds. He can turn it up as well as anyone, and when he does, look out! D. Davis is a monster.

Re: “Album Review: Plastique Mammals, 'Northern Sound'

First of all, Chris, thank you for the incredibly kind review. It makes me feel better than I can describe.

Secondly, in defense of the Logger clip!

A major source of inspiration for the EP was a critique I received from an out of town band we played with about a year ago. After our set, a member of the band commented; "You guys just SOUND like you're from up here."

While writing this EP, I was exploring that concept. What does life up here SOUND like? What does it SOUND like to come down the hill on Main Street and see the mountains behind the lake?

The image I wanted to inspire with the Logger clip stems from the accent. I've spent my entire life in Franklin County, and that manner of speech is as familiar to me as Lake Champlain, or mountains in the distance. In building an auditory representation of my home, I could think of no better monument to the simple, dignified, rural-blue-collar side of Vermont.

Considering the mood of the EP that it closes, I agree that the piece can be jarring. It irks you in the same way that stepping outside of Burlington, getting hit in the face with the cow-manure perfume that fills the rest of the state, can do to some. On an EP that works to capture the sublimity of life in Vermont, a peek into what you see when your head drifts into the clouds, the closing sample serves as a reminder of what's back on the ground.

Thanks again for the most flattering review!

Re: “Album Review: The Essex Green, 'Hardly Electronic'

Isn't that cover a Nathan Benn photo? Think I saw that at Shelburne Museum a couple years back.

Re: “Album Review: Sam., 'Collision'

I am incredibly proud of these young men! How did it even get better than the South Cove EP? But, it did!! 99 Neighbors! If you get a chance to see them live, don't hesitate!

Re: “Album Review: Bostjan Zupancic, 'Nothing Special'

Thanks so much for taking the time to check this one out! I really appreciate the kind words as well as the honesty. Some folks have told me that they really enjoyed the tracks you didn't like, and disliked the tracks that you received positively, so, I guess it's a case of pleasing some of the people some of the time, although, to be frank, although I started out trying to make something to please listeners, I ended up just making this album as my own emotional outlet.
And wow, was 2017 a year of lots of different emotions.
I hope the above doesn't sound disingenuous. I really do greatly appreciate the attention, and I wouldn't be playing microtonal metal music if I didn't want to hear people's negative comments.
"Interesting Enough" has not been received well by critics, in general, which, I suppose is unsurprising, given the way the content is likely to be received. Yet, my musician friends have told me that they felt the song was very relate-able. Just for the record, it has nothing to do with anyone who has ever written any reviews I've actually read.

Re: “Album Review: Kelly Ravin, 'Engine'

Couldn't agree more with this. I personally think this is Kelly's strongest work to date, and I've told him so. Great record and his means of distribution - sending to anyone who wanted it - shows how important these songs and this music were and are to him.

Somewhere Gram Parsons is smiling. This sounds/feels like he never really left us. Thank you so much.

Re: “Album Review: Tiffany Couture, 'She Still Rises'

I've known Tiffany and her family my whole life. Her great grandmother and my mother we're best friends. I was one of the many people who where at the airport the day Tiffany arrived in her little pink dress. She has been loved by so many people. She has grown into such a beautiful singer and person.
