Re: “New Silo Murals Link Jeffersonville's Past and Future

I just returned from Jafferson,VT. I am from CT but never expected such a great art piece in small community like this. Amazed to see this. These paintings will surely remind me about Jeffersonville long long time. Really appreciate the art work.

Re: “Karen Mittelman Takes the Lead at Vermont Arts Council

Vermont is incredibly fortunate to have Karen here and serve as Executive Director of the Vt Arts Council. As Chair of the VAC I can assure you that this was one of the best decisions weve ever made. Great interview!

Re: “State Officials Rake in Errant Leaf People

So sad that such a charming tradition is gone for no good reason.
Pinney is right..we do need to put a smile on peoples faces. Now there will be a few less. What a shame!

Re: “05401PLUS Magazine Takes Long View of Burlington

Great to see coverage of 05401PLUS, but I'd like to add that it also acts as a public forum, albeit written, for all the things we should be seeing discussed in the media, in public forums, and in our neighborhood NPAs... and aren't. We need a venue and leadership for discussing public investment issues, civic development, housing and commercial enterprises that change and form the city, direction of our school, transportation impacts, etc. that aren't held by one voice and with the intent of one outcome. We need more than hearings, we need a public conversation and the media has a role in this. To think that journalism is only investigative (re. VTDiggers presentation on Tuesday this week) or current events misses the point.

05401PLUS may be hard to read for some and one-sided at times, but I believe it is the only publication that is addressing our human and social impact on the physical environment and questioning our habits of place-making. We need this sometimes awkward, sometimes beautiful endeavor. Too bad more people aren't reading it.

Re: “Kirtan Rabbi Brings Chant to Ohavi Zedek

Hi. This is the Kirtan Rabbi. Thank you for such a lovely article, Ken! Just a correction: the video takes place at Bnai Jeshurun synagogue in NYC, albeit there are a lot of Romemu people there!

Re: “Hungarian Play About Surveillance Is Eerily Prescient

Great article, except for the mistake that it is not the company's first time in the US. Peasant Opera performed at the Lincoln Center Festival in 2009 to great critical acclaim.

Re: “Dykes to Watch Out For: Pièce de Résistance

So welcome!! to see this. I think Alison Bechdel makes the best drawings, well comparisons are odious, but those drawings are so specific and witty about the people I see around, the haircuts, the actual drawing of the faces, just wildly good. Plus the political and verbal content, dynamite. Is this just a one time thing or will there be more?? I also like Peter Schumann's visual stuff, posters and more. So clear and legible, dare I say formal elements are not ignored. but the details, that spunky little girl, they all slay me. I feel much better in these dark days.
When i taught Drawing at Johnson State I had my classes look at her work right along with Van Gogh, Daumier, Titian, Goya, the Alice in Wonderland drawings, by Sir John Tenniel, Faith Ringold,Clark Derbes, and and on into the ocean of fabulous visual art. Thank you Pamela Polston, the whole paper is a treasure, much better than what i can find in Amherst, MA area where our daughter lives.

Re: “Maiden Vermont Makes Sweet Harmony

What wonderful people Jerry and Lindi are- talented, committed, and welcome additions to our area (actually, Jerry is a Vermont native)! They have done so much to make our lives more enjoyable through Maiden Vermont, the Middlebury Wind Ensemble, and the many other areas of our existence that they participate in. Nice article!
