Re: “Hackie: New York Sans Nudity

In a different locale, and another life, I drove for hire, and had a lovely, wealthy, couple in my vehicle. The gentleman had been air sick and was still struggling. Getting them home involved a side trip behind a 7-11 near the airport to throw up. After he literally got it out of his system, we had a nice ride to their home where they tried to hire me as their personal driver.

I still wonder how life would have been different if I had taken them up on it.

Re: “Hackie: The Grapes Are Dead

Such a nice, nostalgic story. Ever since I saw Sweet Hearts Dance 30 years ago, Vermont has seemed so wondrous to me.
Piercing to think Susan Sarandon may have regretted her role in that film. I recall thinking at the time, "Wow! Don Johnson can actually act."

Re: “Hackie: My Frozen Junk

Too funny! I did the same thing last November driving south through Connecticut during a snowstorm. Could barely make it off the interstate, no public toilet, so pulled into a narrow driveway between 2 tract houses. Yappy yippy dogs went crazy barking at me from houses on both sides, windows right above me. I ruined the pristine look of the driveways for those people when they got home from work, left my underwear too. Ugh. Thanks for making me feel less alone.

A third date at can-am? It took me 4 years before I brought my girlfriend there! Brick must have been really smitten!

Re: “Hackie: Me Versus the Visigoths

As a business person who travels extensively, I cannot count the number of times I jumped into a taxi only to be taken for a "ride" around town to run up the meter. I got to know these destinations enough to figure it out. It was not a sometimes occurrence, but the norm. This is the biggest reason why Uber has crushed the old market. It was about time. Go UBER!!

Re: “Hackie: Keep Your Shirt On

I grew up in Burlington have not lived there for 40 years. Now live with my family in Central Vermont. I used to have dreams often about traveling around the streets of Burlington. So when I read "Hackie" and his cab rides I really hang onto the streets he goes on and the local people he visits with. Just wanted to say thanks. N Del

Re: “Hackie: Reggie Snow

Hey, I remember Reggie Snow. I was in the Vermont National Guard with him and followed his basketball team, logically called The Shamrocks. He and wife Beverly lived in the South End. I hired his son, Robbie, to work for the City.

This is an amazing account of your adventures in cabbing! I know someone who reminds me of "Ed"...a genuinely all around amazing guy!

I am always invigorated by my "rides" with Jernigan, a terrific writer with the ability to draw people in.

Re: “Till Kingdom Come

@ Jernigan via Cathy Resmer- The following quote that is now on the story was not there this morning. Being able to go in and change a story after the fact is a beautiful thing...

"All these stories are true, though names and locations may be altered to protect privacy"

In response to the second point, I did read the entire story, including the part where you supposedly "castigated" yourself. In actuality, I do not think you castigated yourself, instead you wrote and published the story, which benefited you, at this poor woman's expense.
