Re: “Eckankar Followers Chant 'Hu' in Burlington

Once a Scientologist, always a Scientologist. This is a cult. No more and no less. One more pay to play organization. I once had a very dear friend who got mixed up with this. His nearness and dearness disappeared upon joining. He's still singing Hu a mile a minute and nothing has come of it yet. I feel sorry for him and would love to drag him out of it, but I understand the punishments for those who leave can be pretty awful.

Hi @Jacey, here's a link to the press release. The link is a bit long and goes to the department's Facebook page. I hope it helps: https://www.facebook.com/SouthBurlingtonPo…

To the author, where can we read a copy of the South Burlington press release? My google searches have turned up nothing.

Re: “Bible Study on Aisle Three: Church's 'Pushy' Tactics Spook Vermont Shoppers

I feel terrible for Michelle Ramirez, who says the WMSCOG is a "profit-making global enterprise" that pressured her to donate more than $100,000 and led her to "believe that terrible things would happen to her if she used the Internet to conduct research on World Mission New Jersey,"

Re: “Bible Study on Aisle Three: Church's 'Pushy' Tactics Spook Vermont Shoppers

The World Mission Society Church of God is a doomsday cult out of South Korea. They believe that a 74 year old DIVORCED Korean women named Zhang Gil Jah who is alive today, is literally GOD.

Re: “Are You There, God? It's Me, Vermont: Finding Religion in the Most Godless State

It seems prejudiced that you left out the Catholic Church. Pope Francis is an outspoken environmental and ecological activist, a social justice leader, and an animal welfare/rights advocate. But I don't expect you to know that, or even want to know that. Your staff should read this: https://w2.vatican.va/content/dam/francesco/pdf/encyclicals/documents/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si_en.pdf
Thanks for attempting to write a good article.

They're wasting their time in Vermont when the real sinners are in New Hampshire.

I am surprised she would give them her phone number. She should have given them a fake number at least.

If there was no money in religion I would bet that ot would disappear in a moment. People who approach you want something from you and its your faith but only of your money come with that.

Re: “Bible Study on Aisle Three: Church's 'Pushy' Tactics Spook Vermont Shoppers

Street preachers and enthusiastic door-to-door evangelists often provoke interesting discussions. I remember as a kid, home early from school, encouraging two Jehovah Witnesses to return that evening to talk with my parents. (I couldn't be there.)

I've heard of multiple exchanges with folks from this church that border on harassment! Glad to see some reporting on it!

Re: “Last Rites? Burlington Catholics Regroup Ahead of Downtown Church Sale

Harlow sadly is an unbalanced priest who needs to look to the Vatican and the Pope for a little more guidance...he has often found himself, in my opinion as a practicing Catholic- on the wrong side of charitable and all inclusie behavior. As for the sale- seriously- this is a question? I am assure they will build and wont't be the Burlington Brothel.

Re: “Last Rites? Burlington Catholics Regroup Ahead of Downtown Church Sale

Miro will make sure that who ever buys the property will get a sweetheart deal when it comes to zoning and tax breaks . Stand by for more over-development and overcrowding in Burlington. Just wait until our Real Estate Grifter mayor gets his fangs into the property of Memorial Auditorium. Then things will become much worse.

Re: “Last Rites? Burlington Catholics Regroup Ahead of Downtown Church Sale

Quite apart from what the story says about the cathedral, it's worth pointing out that its architect was Edward Larrabee Barnes (d. 2004) who left his mark in a number of US museums, colleges and universities here and abroad. I think his only other Vermont building is a dormitory at Middlebury.

Re: “Last Rites? Burlington Catholics Regroup Ahead of Downtown Church Sale

My late mother instilled in me that we have to "distinguish between faith and the establishmen." I've always remembered that.

For an interesting novel of ideas about the 1970s Burlington church burnings, see L. E. Smith's TRAVERS' INFERNO. Quite a read.
