Re: “Uber Has Sped to the Top of Burlington's Ride-for-Hire Heap

I'll have sympathy for the local cab companies when they can actually provide rides at peak times. The last two times I've called for a cab - once early in the morning to get a ride to the airport, and once in the middle of the day to get back to the dealer servicing my car - at least 3 cab companies told me they couldn't get me a cab for more than an hour. If we didn't have Uber and Lyft, we wouldn't have a taxi service - all we would have is a car-by-appointment service.

Re: “New Deal: Burlington-Based Localvore Aims to Be the Anti-Yelp

Prion - Sorry that you think our efforts are "merely a platform for approved businesses to announce themselves." We do in fact let every farm to table business and farm post to our newsfeed. We feel that people want to know about local food, drink and events - especially the more Localvore among us. And we do mention our intent because we do have intentions of making the platform very clear to understand and a tool you can use rather then yelp - if 2000 locals love a place rather then 684 reviews from tourists, you might see one being of more value. It is odd you wrote a negative sounding review since that is exactly what we are fighting against. These types of feedback are important but rather than posting them on a public forum, we feel feel a dialogue between us should be the way to go, and that is going to be a big part of what we are doing too - sorry you couldn't see it yet!

Re: “New Deal: Burlington-Based Localvore Aims to Be the Anti-Yelp

Really? I long ago gave up on as being non-functional. Thinking the site had been fixed, I just checked: records from 2 years ago are still visible, and nice headshots of the staff, but otherwise the site is almost totally devoid of content. The latest Blog entry is > a year old. is populated, though strange to navigate, with some links broken and some linking back to That's likely to improve with age. It's just an aggregation of ads, though. Aside from another panel of headshots and more laudable statements of intent, it's merely a platform for approved businesses to announce themselves. Problematic as public reviews can be, without them all we have is smiley faces generated by the businesses themselves.
