I read the headline and was suspicious . Then I read the article and am totally for this idea . A small measure to help save lives . It would be smart to read the article before being against this idea .

Good grief! There was a time not too long ago where there were no phones or ambulances or fire trucks but, thank God, we have progressed. If you want to live in the last century, have at it.

Re: “Officials Want Sugar Houses Registered in Vermont's E911 System

How much $$$ are these Shacks going to have to pay for this, and to what organization?
What other mandates will the Shacks have to be part of? Roads for access, Communications such as help pay for cell towers or equipment, Water and Sewer,,,,,,, etc., etc.!

Re: “Officials Want Sugar Houses Registered in Vermont's E911 System

Not nanny state. If you dont want to register then dont. Its not required. Its simply emergency services trying to improve their response and efficiency. In an emergency seconds and minute mattter. If you chose not to register, fine, but then please do not whine about a negative outcome. Your choice! I choose increased safety. My life and the life of my friends may depend on it.

Re: “Workers Uncover a ‘Pretty Cool’ Historic Tunnel in Downtown Burlington

The buildings along St. Paul Street next to City Hall Park are connected on the lower level - the tunnel door is still visible at 1 Lawson Lane. The Ghostwalk pointed that out on the tour I took a few years ago.

Edit: This Seven Days story features this:

Between 1790 and 1820, (Gideon) King controlled most of the lakes trade, with ownership of at least 40 percent of the ships on the water. Thomas Jeffersons Embargo Act of 1807 put a major cramp in his style, but King didnt stop trading with our neighbors to the north. He just took it underground literally. According to legend, he built a network of tunnels that extended from the lake to major distribution points in the city.
There are many tunnels under burlington. Manhattan pizza has a tunnel and a mystery door that noone has opened. Necters also has many tunnels in their basement. So the tunnel they found is not a water run off. Its a tunnel for transport of illegal booze and was once used for moving slaves. Dpw really needs to do their homework before making a statement ...

Re: “Amid Retail Pressures, Another Vermont General Store Prepares to Close

I hate seeing this! I grew up around them and worked in a few. Sadly what needs to be done is diversity..and when you wait to long its to hard to recover! My heart goes out to the owners and their choice!

Re: “Amid Retail Pressures, Another Vermont General Store Prepares to Close

My hometown general store - Dan and Whit's - still doing very well in rural Norwich, VT which is also on the connecticut river. In a good market under good management village stores can still thrive, though $15/hr minimum wage may sink even the most resilient ones.

In addition to no sales tax, New Hampshire doesn't have the arduous Act 250 permitting process, which has allowed big box stores to sprout along West Lebanon floodplains like spring wheat.

Re: “Weed for Warriors: Veterans Day Event Features Free Cannabis

PTSD is not a qualifying medical condition for a medical marijuana card unless I'm missing something in the statutes...

Re: “Fake Facebook Event Page Touts Wrong Date for Montpelier Women's March

And there is a chronic pain patient march nation wide on January 29 for people who are interested. It's a march against the rules making it harder for people with chronic pain that the government has made new rules lowering what we can get for pain medication. The DEA gave false information to get bills passed to try and get pain meds taken away from everyone. Email your senators and representatives to tell them how you feel about this. Also contact the state senators in Vermont.

Re: “Walking on Water: Michigan Man Paddleboards Across Lake Champlain

Congrats to Eric for making the trip to VT for one of my favorite paddles, on an inflatable no less! Its a run that I do at least twice a summer. The WND&WVS crew were actually the ones who told me about it, they call it the ferry run. I did an epic downwinder on the very first Port Kent crossing of the 2018 season with one of the WND&WVS team riders, Dr. Bob (a paddleboard legend who lives right here in VT). Best way to do the ferry run is to wait for a big west wind, take the ferry to Port Kent, then downwind back, riding bumps and grinning the whole way. Lets keep the ferry going until November, squeeze another one in!!

Re: “Man Who 'Hates Vermont and Vermonters' Is Looking for Work — in Vermont

Why would anyone hire a whining sniveling complainer for anything demanding personal responsibility? First rule of management: NEVER hire a problem!

You're from FL (or as I like to call it, the armpit of the US) and you don't like Vermont? We really don't need you here. Boy, bye!
