Re: “Open Mic

Side note:

Backstage Pub's website (backstagevt.com) is the worst-looking website I've ever seen. (I have a Master's Degree in a related field and work at a web design company, so I know a little bit what I'm talking about.)

Please consider getting a standard WordPress or SquareSpace template site--or really anything at all except this. These sites (WordPress and SquareSpace) offer low-cost, really easy-to-make or maintain website templates that are simple, standard, and familiar. They look much more professional and are easier to use than your site.

The yellow background hurts my eyes. There are too many conflicting font colors and styles. It's visually unbalanced. The photos don't match any of the other colors, and there's no rhyme or reason to their placement.

By having such a terribly visually designed site, you're driving traffic and business *away* rather than creating more business. It looks entirely unprofessional and is an eyesore. This is entirely preventable and can be corrected without too much time or effort.

I'm saying this because I care. You're a local business. It's cool that you offer a regular Karaoke night. I was considering going to the karaoke event until I saw the site, at which point I started to lose respect for the professionalism of your business. I don't want that to happen to the next several visitors who might have come and given you money.

(I am not affiliated with, do not work for, and do not get any money from the companies/services that I'm recommending above. This is just kind of a PSA with constructive criticism to try to help remedy the situation.)

Re: “Fay Webern

The Button Thief is an amazing book, and Fay Webern is a riveting reader -- you can see some of her other readings on her website at faywebern.com.

I know I'll be there!

I tried to go to this today, and no one there knew anything about it. I'm disappointed that there was a listing here which was wrong, and my kids were disappointed as well. Maybe take this listing down for the rest of the weekend so there is no further confusion.

Re: “Pokémon League

The first day of league on Sunday was a great time. Very low key atmosphere, which really helped people feel welcome and comfortable. There was a lot of fun positive banter between regulars and new comers alike. Brap's is definitely an A+ place to game.

Re: “F.O.L.K. Festival

Auction lovers - take note. There is an auction at the festival each year, and it's a blast! There are many items up for bid this year, like a plush armchair from Mattress and Sofa Warehouse ($359 value), glider ride from Stowe Soaring, scenic plane ride for 3 from Lakeview Aviation, passes to Story Land, Jay Peak Pump House passes, and much more!
