Re: “Smokey's Low N Slow BBQ Comes to South Burlington

Vermont Tap House has a list of dozens of local farms they source from, and I have eaten a great Laplatt burger at Buono's. Love both places. Maybe you have it wrong?

Re: “Smokey's Low N Slow BBQ Comes to South Burlington

Where will the food be sourced from? Any local, organic, gluten-free, etc.? Based on the list of the owner's other establishments, it sounds like another Sysco special.

P.S. I challenge all Seven Days food writers to avoid using the following words in their reviews: "fare", "unctuous", and "toothsome". This list is to be continued.

Re: “Sweet Alchemy Bakery and Café Comes to Essex Junction

I've had the pleasure of sampling many of Bhavatarini's creations. She's amazing, sharing her energy, knowledge and expertise in her craft with great joy. She'll serve you incredibly delicious foods! And she's creating a wonderful space for building community. Thank you, Bhavatarini! Sweet Alchemy is an exciting new asset to the area!!! Can't wait to indulge!

Re: “Magic Hat Opens Full Tasting Room With Food, and a Party

Looks like a nice redesign. Too bad about the beer, though.

Re: “McKenzie Releases New Non-GMO Products

Please, rather than printing a press release, dig into this a bit deeper. What GMO ingredients are there in the regular, non-non-GMO beef? Roast beef, salt, and pepper. None of those are even available as GMO products. There is no reference on their website to their not allowing cows to be fed GM crops, because it's not true (and with the markedly higher cost involved, they would advertise that). So you have a greenwashed product with the Non GMO Project stamp that is no different than the product was before the stamp. By McKenzie supporting this labeling, and by Seven Days publicizing it, you are perpetuating the myth of the dangerous GMO, and further dumbing down the discussion of how we are going to feed ourselves sustainable, fairly, and economically.
Oh and that raw milk cheese? I can all but guarantee that contains GMO rennet, which has been exempted from the GMO=evil meme because of the near total reliance of it for one of our most iconic industries.
I expect better. Please report, don't repeat.

Re: “McKenzie Releases New Non-GMO Products

I hate to burst your bubble, but the pictured sandwich is every bit as much a health disaster as a tub of Ben & Jerry's ice cream.

Re: “Wild Roots Updates 200-Year-Old Tavern in Royalton

oh Good. the last/past owner put a ton of time and energy not to mention $$ and was only open briefly. Looking forward to this new experience.

Re: “Another, Pre-Security Skinny Pancake at BTV

This brings up 2 questions. Will the service and food at this one be as bad as the one behind security? Will this one also be exempt from paying its employees a livable wage?

Re: “Food Allergies? No Problem at Jules on the Green

I am so excited to try this place!! I am constantly in fear when I go out to eat. I also grew up with a severe nut allergy and have NEVER been able to order dessert at restaurants. This is awesome!

So excited to try this place out! There are not a ton of vegan dining out options in Vermont.

Re: “Food Allergies? No Problem at Jules on the Green

So excited! As a family with tree nut and peanut allergies, we have been dismayed by how few places there are to eat in the area. We look forward to coming soon!

Re: “Our House Bistro Expands to Plattsburgh

For those concerned about parking problems, there is a huge city parking lot just diagonal to thier new location in Plattburgh. Also I might add FREE parking. I've been employed at a downtown eatery for 15 years now (almost right next door to thier new location) and parking has never been an issue for our establishment and growth. We in the industry in the downtown district welcome the new venture of Matt and Maggie.

Mike's an extremely creative guy. I think he'll be a great fit for Hill Farmstead.
