Official Rules

  • Nominating or voting more than once per person in each of the two rounds is prohibited. If you (the voter or finalist) are caught cheating or encouraging others to take advantage of the system, you will be warned. If the problem continues, you will be disqualified as a finalist and your votes will not be counted.
  • Campaigning to win is legal, but bribery is not. For example, it's OK to enter your customers/clients/friends into a raffle if they vote in the Daysies competition, but not OK to give them a perk in return for voting specifically for you.
  • Nominees that are not local or locally owned will be disqualified from becoming finalists in the voting round.
  • To reduce the potential for voter fraud and ballot stuffing, we will only accept nominations and votes cast from within the U.S.
  • Daysies finalists must be active, open and/or operational throughout the entirety of the Daysies contest up until winners are announced, or they may be removed from the ballot and the magazine.

Fine Print

  • Daysies finalists are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and professional manner. If we deem that a finalist's behavior does not meet this criteria and is negatively impacting the contest, Seven Days has the right to remove the finalist at any time.
  • Contest entrants agree to abide by the terms of the Official Rules and by the decisions of the contest commissioners, which are final on all matters pertaining to the contest.
  • Entrants further grant to Seven Days the right to use and publish their proper name and town online and in print, or any other media, in connection with the Seven Daysies competition.
  • Seven Days reserves the right to use any and all information related to the Contest, including information on contestants obtained through the contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law.
  • The Seven Daysies competition and all of the related pages and contents are copyright Seven Days. Copying or unauthorized use of any copyrighted materials, trademarks or any other intellectual property without the express written consent of its owner is strictly prohibited.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where is the submit button? How do I know my nominations or votes counted?

There is no final submit button. Once you click the "Vote" or "Nominate" button, your choice is saved. No further action is needed!

How often can I vote?

A participant may only submit one nomination or vote per category during the nomination and voting periods. The choices in each category are saved upon submission, but can be changed throughout the nomination and voting periods. At the conclusion of each period, final choices will be recorded and counted.

Why do some categories have ICC (Inside Chittenden County) and OCC (Outside Chittenden County) options?

If a category traditionally receives an overwhelming amount of nominations (enough to break it into ICC and OCC), we will add the designation in the nomination round. If other categories receive a substantial amount of nominations in a given year, we will add the designation in the voting round.

I’m having trouble registering. What do I do?

  • When you start nominating or voting in the first category of your choice, you will be asked to sign in with your email address or Google account. If that address is not yet registered, you will be prompted to register with your email, name and zip code.
  • If you did not use a Google account to sign in, you will receive an email to confirm your identity with a special code.
  • Find the six-digit code in the confirmation email and enter it into the "CODE" field on the confirmation page. The email is from [email protected] and the subject line reads: "Confirm your email address."
  • Once the registration process is complete, you can continue entering nominations or votes on the ballot.

If you have trouble with this process, we suggest trying a different browser or device. If that doesn't help, please let us know by emailing [email protected].

I don't have time to fill out the ballot right now. Can I come back and continue it later?

Sure! As long as you've already registered (see above) in that round and it's before deadline, you can pick up where you left off. When you return to the ballot on the same device, you should be automatically logged in and see your previous selections. If you aren't logged in and you know that you've already registered in that round, click the "Sign In" link at the top of the page to sign in manually.

Can I continue the process on another device?

Yes. When you return to the ballot on a different device, click the "Sign In" link at the top of the page to sign in manually.

Why do I have to make an account?

Our balloting software requires that users create an account. This helps us police ballot box stuffing and allows you to revisit your ballot before deadline to make changes and additional nominations (round #1) or votes (round #2).

Why are there two rounds? Didn’t there used to be only one?

We’ve added the second round to highlight the amazing businesses that don’t win. Yes, it’s great to be the winner and the runner-up, but what about third place? We wanted to show our readers and advertisers the finalists so that a few more people get their moment in the spotlight.

Nomination Questions (Round #1)

I want to nominate a company that doesn’t fit into any of the categories. How do I add one?

At this time, all of the categories are set. When we pick new categories, we consider the following;

  • Would readers find a category useful?
  • Can you name more than three nominees for a category?
  • Is it a distinctly Vermont thing?
If your suggestion fits the above, please email [email protected] with your idea, and we’ll consider adding it to the ballot next year.

Why are certain locations popping up as I type in my nominations?

To help you find the nominees you're looking for more quickly, our balloting software detects previous nominees and known businesses as you write them in. If your choice isn't showing up, just keep typing to add the full name of the nominee to our database.

Voting Questions (Round #2)

What is the minimum number of categories that I need to vote in?

There is no minimum. Vote in as few or as many categories as you wish!

How do finalists get on the ballot?

Readers write in nominations during Round #1. Real Seven Dayzers buckle down, order pizza and merge all the variations on similar nominations into a master list. The most popular nominees in each category advance to the voting round (Round #2), and then the fine people of Vermont vote for their faves from among those finalists.

I voted in a category in Round 1 that doesn't seem to exist in Round 2. Where'd it go?

Sometimes specific categories receive insufficient votes to proceed to the next round. We're bummed when this happens, but we have to make sure that Daysies finalists are truly worthy, and categories in which nominees receive just a handful of votes do not meet our standards.
