The Brooklyn-based artist calls the contents of her exhibit “paintings and comics.” And so they are. But that doesn’t really explain her unique combination of cartoon-y line drawing, acrylic paint and fabric-inspired backgrounds (specifically, William Morris textiles). With speech bubble overlays, the works are meme-ready. In “Say Nice Things to Me,” currently at Scavenger Gallery in White River Junction, Musgrove further explains in an artist statement that she explores memoir through various modes. Visitors to the petite jewelry shop and gallery can ponder paintings that the artist says dissect an affair “for the purpose of posterity, insight and reckoning.” at Scavenger Gallery in White River Junction. What if the ancient myth of the goddess Persephone took place in modern times? Greek deities get a glamorous makeover for Mythic, Marcus Stevens and Oran Eldor’s new pop-rock musical. It follows the eventual queen of the underworld on a journey of self-discovery in a world where gods take the form of rock stars, politicians and socialites. The offspring of a boho-chic Demeter encounters her all-powerful father Zeus, bad boy Hades and the Britney Spears-esque goddess of love Aphrodite, played by Jessica Gallant (pictured). The Segal Centre for Performing Arts presents the North American premiere of the immortal musical propelled by epic anthems and the complexity of the mother-daughter relationship. at Sylvan Adams Theatre, Segal Centre for Performing Arts in Montréal. Outside Vermont (map). $53-67.
