    Move over, Kim Kardashian — poets are the sought-after celebrities in David Ives’ uproarious comedy The Metromaniacs. Adapted from an 18th-century French farce by Alexis Piron, the play follows an aspiring poet who becomes infatuated with the works of an enigmatic female writer. The twist? The lady is, in fact, a middle-aged man pulling a trick on the poetry establishment. A Middlebury Actors Workshop production transports theatergoers to a place that director Melissa Lourie calls “a purer world, where characters are drunk on language and high-comic passion.” at Town Hall Theater in Middlebury.     Pop songs from the 1950s and ’60s propel the story of The Marvelous Wonderettes, the hit off-Broadway musical by Roger Bean. Audience members meet teen singers Suzy, Betty Jean, Cindy Lou and Missy, performing at their high school’s senior prom in 1958. The story continues at their 10-year high school reunion, where the women, facing the challenges of adulthood, reconnect in four-part harmony. Familiar tunes such as “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick on Your Collar” and “Respect” have onlookers dancing in their seats during this ArtisTree Music Theatre Festival production. at The Grange Theatre in South Pomfret.
