    When the autumn air turns crisp, some Vermonters may choose to cozy up with a good book. Words Out Loud, an annual afternoon reading series, introduces lit lovers to Green Mountain State authors and their work. The second installment of this season’s sequence spotlights poets George Longenecker and Karla Van Vliet. Longenecker, a Middlesex resident and president of the Poetry Society of Vermont, released his first full-length collection, Star Route, in March. Two-time Pushcart Prize nominee Van Vliet is the author of two poetry collections and the forthcoming chapbook Fragments: From the Lost Book of the Bird Spirit. Bookworms can meet the writers at a post-reading reception at the Kent Museum. at Old West Church in Calais. Barre/Montpelier (map). Free.
