The Vermont photographer assigned herself the project of taking a black-and-white portrait with her smartphone camera every day for a year. In fact, the original impetus was a way to learn the capabilities of her iPhone X. “How hard could it be to take one photo of someone each day for a year?” she writes in an artist statement. “The discipline as well as the creative challenge was both fun and stressful. My added personal challenge was that I wanted the photos to be as culturally, ethnically and occupationally diverse as possible.” Viewers can see the results of Moore’s project in her solo exhibition, “Everyday, Someone: 365 Days in Black & White,” at Barre’s Studio Place Arts. When you live in Vermont, striking views are all around you, not just in the natural world but in a zillion reproductions on everything from oil paintings to T-shirts. Right now at Axel’s Gallery & Frame Shop in Waterbury, an exhibition of photographs reveals landscapes that, as the title states, are normally invisible. The infrared images of Lisa Diamondstein, Julie Parker and Sandra Shenk capture a spectrum of light that is beyond the human eye’s ability to detect. The absence of color in this surreal “hidden” world underscores how our sense of reality relies on green grass, blue sky. at Axel's Gallery & Frame Shop in Waterbury.
