    Michael Chaney is a professor of English and African American studies at Dartmouth College. His wife, Sarah Biggs Chaney, is a lecturer and administrator at the school, as well as a poet. Together they collaborate on mixed-media artworks that combine their visual and verbal skills “to record our experiences.” The Chaneys’ almanac series is represented in a current 26-artist exhibit at T.W. Wood Gallery in Montpelier. In fact, “Almanac 4” — inspired by Februa, the ancient season of midwinter — earned a people’s choice award. In addition to text and painting, the quilt-like piece repurposes cotton swabs, old newspapers, denim, birch bark, salt packets and metal spouts. at T.W. Wood Gallery in Montpelier.     Hear ye, hear ye! A world of music, mead and merriment awaits at the third annual Winter Renaissance Faire, presented by Vermont Gatherings. This year, the festival has expanded into a two-day happening featuring a wide range of family-friendly attractions inspired by the Middle Ages. Singers, musicians, acrobats and dancers entertain; living history demos illustrate medieval life; and art and craft vendors offer goods ranging from toys to jewelry to period clothing. Eats and drinks by local purveyors such as A Single Pebble, Bluebird Barbecue, Groennfell Meadery and Smugglers’ Notch Distillery keep spirits high during this historical and fantastical fest. at Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction.     Montréal rapper Boogát bridges worlds with his Latin-infused hip-hop. The Canadian Mexican MC draws musical influence from traditional Central American, South American and Caribbean genres, such as cumbia, salsa and reggaeton. His hybrid sound is modern and fresh, yet it incorporates a bit of old-school, East Coast hip-hop crunch. Fully capable of starting a dance party, his tunes are also heady and complex. He finds good company with similarly chameleonic Spanish-speaking rappers such as Ana Tijoux and Mala Rodríguez. Boogát performs on Saturday, February 23, at Club Metronome in Burlington.
