Re: “The Burlington Free Press Will Be Printed in Coastal New Hampshire

All the HS sports and lists of things people reported on See Click Fix that are fit to print will now be printed in New Hampshire. The Freep doesn't seem to be living free, so I guess that just leaves one thing.

Re: “Democratic Leaders Blame 'Squirrelly' Legislator for Override Fail

Everyone talking about this bill saying it's unpopular... It had bicameral support, and, indeed, just under 2/3 of the House supported it. That's actually an extremely popular bill, and the governor did a disservice to the majority who support it.

Re: “Betting Man: Gov. Scott's Gambling Proposals Face Tough Odds in Legislature

Forest - first, the most prominent progressive lawmaker quoted in the article (Ashe) says basically, "why not?" so your analysis is a bit off.

Second, gambling, as Ancel mentions in the article, is merely a tax on the poor, taking money from those who can least afford it. It is REgressive. On the other hand, decriminalization is PROgressive because it removes a pathway to prison for those same individuals, where they and other marginalized folks are represented at inequitable rates. Being opposed to gambling and supportive of other decriminalization efforts is not nearly as contradictory as you imply.

Re: “Legislators Set Their Sights on New Gun Restrictions

"I would much prefer they spend some time re-working the onerous property taxes, the excessive spending, the incredibly expensive school system, and finding a way other than paying people to move here to attract jobs and employers. How about spending some time on those (actual) problems?"

Lower property taxes = give people more money to make Vermont more attractive
Lower excessive spending = give people more money to make Vermont more attractive
Make education cheaper = give people more money to make Vermont more attractive
Don't pay people to come here = don't give people more money to make Vermont more attractive

Super consistent.

Re: “Dems Endorse UVM Student for Ward 1 Burlington Council Seat

I didn't accuse anyone of "murder." I accused a cop of beating a man to death, which is literally what happened.

The officer is in a position of power with ample training and opportunity to de-escalate and/or protect himself without the confrontation resulting in death. Do you disagree with that?

It is better to have any confrontation end without someone dying. Do you disagree with that?

Bullies, even bullies "already in poor health" do not deserve to die if it can be avoided. Do you disagree with that?

Re: “Dems Endorse UVM Student for Ward 1 Burlington Council Seat

The smaller guy (a cop) punching him back (beating him). And then... did he die? So he was beaten to death? By a cop? In a video you've seen? No need to be disingenuous about it.

Re: “Dems Endorse UVM Student for Ward 1 Burlington Council Seat

A cop protected himself and beat a guy to death. Surely they have strategies to protect themselves that don't involve beating a guy to death.

What about the woman in handcuffs in St. Albans? Were they protecting themselves then, too? Give me a break.
