Re: “Blue Paddle Bistro

Blue Paddle is too good to be a secret
Blue Paddle Bistro was always "that house with the canoe" that we drive by when traveling between Plattsburgh and Burlington. We decided to stop in on a recent Saturday night. We arrived without a reservation. Since it was early, we were invited to choose our room and table. The layout includes a bar, dining room downstairs (and a tiny gift shop), and two dining rooms upstairs. Sometimes there is live music. Walking in the door I got the feeling like I was on my first day of summer vacation. The atmosphere and decor make you feel like you have just arrived at your (or someone's) beach house. I sat down at my table, wiggled my toes and let out a happy sigh. My husband and I eat some fish, no meat, and found the server to be accommodating and helpful. My husband asked for a substitution due to a food allergy and it was not a problem. We each ordered different salads. Both were very fresh with just the right amount of homemade dressing. The vegetable spring rolls exceeded our expectations - crunchy and full of color and flavor. I've been known to judge a place by its crab cakes and Blue Paddle Bistro did not disappoint - moist, no filler, light crust. Our dinner included crab stuffed ravioli, and a burrito with homemade salsa. Both were very good. We were pleased with our wine choice and our water glasses and bread basket were kept full. The dessert menu sounded tempting but we saved that for next time. During our meal we interacted with three different wait staff. The service was consistent, attentive, and unobtrusive. The owner came upstairs to say hello and check in with us. Upon learning we were first time visitors we were invited to take a tour and meet the chef. The personal attention was unexpected and very genuine. We felt welcome at Blue Paddle Bistro and are looking forward to our next visit. For folks traveling between Plattsburgh and Vermont (via the ferry), make it a point to stop in to enjoy the tasty food, attentive service and warm atmosphere. They also do "take out."
