Re: “An Omnivorous Food Writer Tests a Vegan Diet

This longtime vegan thanks you for the useful resources! Plenty of vegans don't go for omni subs, but you've discovered Miyoko's Creamery. I love their smoked mozzarella and wowed nonvegan guests with Miyoko's Vegan Cheese Wheel.

Re: “Keurig Dr Pepper to Lay Off 118 Vermont Employees

"VPR asked Keurig for documentation of the payments they received from the state, and of the number and types of jobs created with that money. Three weeks later, a spokesperson for Keurig sent over the following statement:

"'The Vermont Economic Progress Council (VEPC) and its VEGI incentive program have encouraged us to invest heavily in Vermont over the last 10 years. The program has made it possible for Keurig Green Mountain to maintain a strong physical presence in Vermont, creating over 2000 new jobs and capital investment exceeding $450 million.'"

Re: “'I Am Vermont Too' Exhibition Opens at the Statehouse

This is real life according to people who have lived it. Being the constant target of ignorant assumptions sounds deeply irritating at best. Like instead of seeing a person, people see a "type." Ouch.

I have no experience having dark skin. But I remember two microaggressions based on my Jewish ethnicity. I wasn't devastated, more perplexed and miffed. But the memories remain acute. When I was 23, my boyfriend's sister told him that I would expect him to buy me expensive things and provide a lavish lifestyle. When I was in my 30s, a cafe manager who'd become an acquaintance to the point of discussing our backgrounds said that I "must be really good at business and earning."

And those were nothing, two mild chafes from my long-ago past. My heart aches thinking of people living with that disrespect daily, seeing it on others' faces before they even speak, taking the hit, and constantly striving to heal beyond it.

Life is hard enough without having to deal with this kind of thing. I want to do better for others and help reduce this pointless stress. Our assumptions about others are usually unconscious and implicit, nothing we've "decided" to believe. Still, we open our mouths and out they come, causing people pain. We must dismantle racism for all our sakes.

Re: “Scott, Minter Showcase Stark Differences in First Debate

"Asked whether transgendered students should be able to use the bathrooms of their choice in schools, both Democrat Sue Minter and Republican Phil Scott said they should."
Good news, this, but the term "transgendered" implies something happened to change a person. In fact, a person identifying as transgender (there is no "-ed" suffix) is describing who they already are.

Re: “State Won't Ban Recreation on Berlin Pond

Berlin Pond itself is the city's sole drinking water supply. There is no backup reservoir. There is no source for backup water supply. If something happens to Berlin Pond, it's bottled water for the city and part of Berlin, including the hospital.
