Bill, I had the honor of knowing you for several years and always respected you as a person of impeccable character with a great love of music. You will be missed.
What's the BFP's daily circulation lately, anyway? 15,000?
If you take out the Gannett national feature articles and the ads, you're left with two, maybe three pages of "news". I can't for the life of me see why anyone subscribes.
that said, I am *totally* ready for the zombie apocalypse
Out of curiosity, how many issues of Seven Days are distributed each week? (In other words, what's your readership?)
I'm 51 and have never served as a juror.
I registered to vote when I turned 18. I was off at college in Georgia and received a jury summons for service back in my home county in Virginia. I wrote and said "off at college, kthxbye" and that was that.
And I've never received a peep since.
It'd be kind of a headache if I *did* get called because my work involves very frequent travel scheduled far in advance, but at the same time, it'd be an interesting experience.
As a resident of rural eastern Chittenden county, I'd love to have a state senator representing me. But the Chittenden senate district has three residents of Burlington, one resident of South Burlington, and two residents of Williston representing the whole county. There's more to Chittenden County than the built-up area. If it wasn't all one big district, perhaps the rural voters would get some representation.
For what it's worth, I worked as a Mardi Gras parade volunteer for several years -- keeping crowds back and out from underfoot, picking up beads that fell in the street out of reach and flinging them on into the crowds, and so on... and the "and so on" included picking up Main Street after each parade. It was *not* a nasty, onerous job. Many hands made light work and generally we were done picking the unclaimed beads, candy, and other detritus up in about fifteen minutes.
The biggest post-parade task was collecting the bike racks that served as crowd barriers along the route, and pros were paid to do that.
Re: “First Baptist Church of Burlington”
There is no excitement anywhere like a First Baptist Church chicken pie supper. Come prepared for thrills and laughs.
