Re: “Racial Slurs Common at Vermont Psychiatric Hospital, Report Finds

I am not surprised by this at all. The kind of people who congregated around the Vermont State Hospital and now this new facility have been like this for generations. They are racists and bigots and most of all mysogynists. Take this investigation one step further and you will find that almost every woman admitted to this facility has been raped, abused or harassed either by staff or patients.

Re: “'Rebels' Yell: Protests Build Over South Burlington's Mascot Change

I am old enough to remember the civil rights movement and in 1961 when South Burlington adopted the confederate iconography the civil rights movement was, like Trump now, about all there was on the news. People here in Vermont watched the CBS Evening News on WCAX religiously. They most certainly knew what was going on nationally. They saw the dogs and the water cannons and the burned churches and murdered teenaged girls. Throughout all of it they waved the confederate flag and sang Dixie. Today the Rebel Alliance has taken up the cause of their ancestors in this new populist world spawned by Trump. They are outspoken in their support of majority rule over the civil and human rights of the minority. Rebel now, rebel forever in 2017 is no different than segregation now, segeregation forever in 1961.

Re: “South Burlington Man Arraigned in Rebels Stalking Case

Excellent story, Molly, I hope you will continue to follow this story and the related story of the mayhem being caused by Dan Emmons and his Rebel Alliance crowd. The library at the South Burlington Middle School was filled to capacity last night at a special meeting of the School Board. The majority of those present and those who spoke ,including statements read from all the teachers, former board members and parents of children in school, supported the name change, the budget, the school board and the superintendant.

Re: “South Burlington 'Rebels' Defender Hit With No Trespass Order

I have filed a complaint with the Attorney General about the Rebel Alliance's campaign finance violations. They are by definition a PAC and up until a week ago they had not registered with the Secretary of State as a PAC. After the complaint they registered but they still have not reported the money they've raised and spent on protesting the School Board's Rebel name change. They advocate that voters reject the school budget until the School Board agrees to restore the Rebel name.

Re: “Sorrell Allegations Prompt Lawmakers to Seek Elections Panel

In August 2013 I made a complaint to the AG's office of campaign finance violations in the March 2013 South Burlington City Council election. It was finally partially resolved in the past few weeks after 20 months of investigation. I have speculated that it might have taken so long because the people who were contributing to the race against me and for my opponent may have been the same people who contributed to the AG's reelection campaigns. This is yet another reason for an independent election commission. I completely support the legislature in creating a body like this and removing these campaign finance violations from the AG office. It is not just a matter of policing himself but of how his political status potentially affects all complaints that come to him.

Re: “Media Note: Reporting the Personal Side of Politics

Good for Peter and good for Katie. I hope the governor presents her to us more and more. She seems like a very nice person and is probably very good for him. I wish them both all the happiness in the world.
